Title: Playing Blu-Ray's in MC 20
Post by: Daveburt on April 19, 2015, 12:47:13 am
Hi Folks,

I have a copy of PowerDVD 11 (purchased/expensive)... I know it's old, and I was never fond of it!
Seemed like it always stepped on other software which made it annoying.  :P

I'm wondering if there's anyway to use it's Blu-Ray module in MC without having the full program installed.
Maybe install it and then delete most of it, other that the BR module?

Any tips would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Dave

No.

The only advantage of using a PDVD are that the decrypter is included in the price & you get BD Menus.  Apart from that you will get better Video and Audio quality using MC for your BD playback.

Thanks for the reply jmone,

For some reason my MC wont play BD disks though...  :-[
I didn't write down the exact error message, but it was something about audio/video decoders.
Guess I need to do a little more research.

Have a look at the Wiki on what you need (it may help) - http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Blu-ray else post back what the issue is.
Thanks

Hi Nathan,

I checked out the JRWiki link, and it says I need a Blu-Ray decrypter.  It recommends AnyDVD HD which costs ~$85 US...
I've heard good things about that software, but considering I have a decent stand alone BR player I just can't see investing that much cash just for the convenience...

Guess I was hoping the decrypter built into PDVD would allow me to watch BR disks in MC without an additional investment in software.  I may image my current Win7, and play with PDVD 11 to see If I can get BR disks playing in MC (while still giving me a fall back).  ;)

I really like JRiver and it would be nice to be able to watch Blu-Rays using it!
Not sure it's worth $85 just to avoid switching devices though...  :-\

Thanks,
Dave

Fair enough.  Here are some old threads on who we used to integrate 3rd Party Apps (like PDVD and TMT) prior to native support but it is all now not with the effort IMO!  The bits that could be of interest are the AHK scripts.
