Title: Stereo Ambisonic UHJ encoded at 9 o'clock for Nimbus files?
Post by: couchjr on October 30, 2021, 01:48:01 pm
I have a number of files originally recorded by Nimbus in "Stereo Ambisonic UHJ encoded at 9 o'clock" format. They play fine on straight stereo but are a bit swimmy. I suspect that the sound would be clearer (and pretty amazing) if decoded (I'm thinking especially of the complete Haydn symphonies by Adam Fischer and the Austro-Hungarian Orchestra recorded in the Haydnsaal in the Esterhazy Palace).

A search turned up a thread (on film audio format issues) on Interact from 2014 which postulated that MC would never implement any Ambisonics decoding in its DSP functions since the audience would be too small. I wanted to register interest and hope that it might be feasible to put on a feature want-list. I'm hoping that these days it might be easier to implement.

Any chance? Any other interested parties? (One can dream . . . .)

There's at least one other person who would appreciate this!

I've never brought it up as it's so far out of the mainstream that I cant imagine that they would have the slightest interest in adding it.
