Title: HDTracks - No functioning Download Manager for Mac - Revised 11/19/18
Post by: Baroquey on November 17, 2018, 12:45:33 pm
Anyone else have a problem trying to use HDTracks via JRiver?  I was unable to make a purchase by linking to HDTracks via JRiver.  I had to register and purchase, separately.  When I tried to downloand the download manager, I received a screen full of characters.  Cannot find a download link for my macbook pro.    Please let me know if I’m missing something here.  Thanks so much.

I have now tried to download every version of the download manager from HDTracks.  I haven't yet tried on my PC-based audio system in my music room but that's next.  I need the Mac system running, however.  The farthest I have gotten was to get the logon window for the download manager but it keeps closing/crashing, immediately upon launch.  I disable all firewalls and virus software, etc., so not sure what's going on here.  Also, the instructions make confusing reference to downloading from "Dropbox".  The link works, it just won't unpack and run after installation.  Perhaps a waste of time as I've been very happy with TIDAL's MSQ and 24/196 PCM via my ifi Micro2 (Media room) and my ifi Nano BL in my music room.

Why must the purchase be kicked off in Media Center? Just open a browser on your Mac and make your purchase that way.

Thanks, DJ.  I had no problem downloading via my windows10 setup.  DSDs recordings downloaded smoothly.  The mac, however, is a different story; I did try to run the download manager outside of JRiver, via HDTracks, directly.  Screen fills with characters after the logon window appears and disappears in a nanosecond.  I disabled all virusware, etc, but that didn't help.  I'm also looking for a plugin that will provide graphic analysis in real time.  I'm new here and I love the depth of the threads but not immediately apparent where to find everything.

What browser were you using on the Mac? If it was Safari, try Chrome. I don't know a lot about HDTracks because most of their catalogue is not available to Canadian IP addresses. Their prices are crazy high anyway. I'm not sure if you can buy from prostudiomasters.com, but the prices in Canadian dollars are always much lower than HDTracks for the same album.

Thanks, DJ.  Using firefox.  I will say the cost is not unreasonable for what you get.  The DSD 2.8 and 5.6 titles that I downloaded to my pc are stunning.  They do give you the option to reduce the price by stepping-down, incrementally.  That's a terrific idea as depending upon your equipment (one's ears included), it may be difficult to tell the difference between DSD 2.8/3.1/5.6/6.2/11.2/12.2 and 24 bit PCM at 192kHz.  I also found out today that HDTracks has excellent support.  They are closed weekends so I feel suitably stupid.

I buy DSD from prostudiomasters.com or nativedsd.com. Never had any trouble with prostudiomasters purchases. I did complain once to nativedsd about incorrectly tagged material, and they fixed it and gave me a discount on my next purchase. I guess HDTracks seems really expensive to me because of the exchange rate.
