Title: JRemote without internet
Post by: markkufinn on June 24, 2020, 01:02:12 pm
I just built a dedicated JRiver 26 media server using Windows 10 Pro. I would like to use JRemote with my ipad through a wifi router that is connected to the server via ethernet cable. I do not have internet at my location so I would just like to control JRiver via my ipad. All my music is on the server harddrive. I have been having problems connecting the ipad to the server. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

Without internet the access key method won't work, you'll have to use direct IP address of the device JRiver Media Center is running on with port 52199 at the end in the field where it asks for the access key. It will only work when the iPad is connected to the WiFi network.

Example being: 192.168.1.111:52199

You'll have to figure out the local IP address of your server and replace it in the example above, of course. More info is on the Media Network wiki page: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network

I triedto input my server ip address which is 192.168.0.212:52199, but JRemote also ask for address right below IP address line. I do not have a clue?

Works for me.
Just to be clear 192.168.0.212:52199 contains IP address and port number after colon ( : )
So IP address for you would be: 192.168.0.212 and in Port field in JRemote you would enter 52199. If you have authentication on then you also need to enter your username and password

ok thanks. On the JRemote app for add server use ip address it gives me 2 lines. first line is ip address and right below that is an address line. No port is shown. This is the JRemote app for ios. I tried different entries and all fail to connect. I intentionally have the internet disconnected because I want to use the server at my summer home which has no internet. I thought it would be simple. Ipad to wireless router and router via ethernet to my pc.

.... should be better to name the port field as “port” as “address” is confusing ....

I agree, Bob is this something that could be changed while you're doing JRemote for iOS updates? Rename the second line to Port number?

markkufinn, for IP address put in 192.168.0.212 and for address (which is actually port) put in 52199 and see if that works. :)

I tried the ip address and port as suggested. My ipad connects to the router and the router connects to the pc, but when I try to connect JRemote it comes back connecting and right below that timed out(after about 10 seconds) Something is blocking the connection. I turned the windows firewall off and the router firewall off with no help. Bummer

Are they one the same lan segment? If not you'll have to configure routing likely on both ends.

I got it working by installing MC25, which I had before and works fine.

That pretty much points to a firewall issue on your windows machine.
MC 26 didn't get the same permissions as the previously installed MC25.

I will research more. I did turn off all Windows firewall and that did not help on MC26. Just have to dig deeper and see if I can find the problem.
