Title: Switching from iOs to Android: will it hurt?
Post by: fredhammersmith on August 01, 2019, 10:51:05 am
My iPhone 6s just died on me. I am considering switching to Android (Samsung S10).
Will I miss the iOs JRiver?

Assuming you mean JRemote, you'll be fine.

And it's worth mentioning a new version of JRemote is going to hit beta soon too.

More generally, for me, it took several months to get "up-to-speed" with Android.  I'd used iOS for years (iPads only), along with Windows, Linux, and several other mini-computer/mainframe operating systems, but never Android.

At first, with Android, I was *really* upset, but it turned out my problems were A) not knowing Android and B) my entry-level Moto G6 doesn't have the greatest (but not bad) radio/antenna for cellular talk/data.

Anyway, at this point, I'm pretty sure I will *never* get an iPhone.  I'll still recommend iPhones for techno-phobes (I have 2 in my family), but for a "tinkerer" like myself, it is now Android all-the-way!  With iOS it is "the Apple way or the highway".  Just today, I was reading how Apple is clamping-down even further on battery upgrades, where even if you use an Apple battery - but it is installed by a 3rd party - you will get error messages saying the battery condition is unknown.  Worse, for me, is the highly restrictive "sandbox" architecture of iOS, where a lot of apps that you can have on other operating systems (e.g. Android) just can't be implemented on iOS.  I'll not mention the high-cost of iPhones... :-)
