Title: Video Card use/compatibility with Media Center
Post by: diddy on January 24, 2005, 03:01:44 pm
All,
I am currently looking into installing the media center software on my computer and I'm trying to determine what hardware I'm going to have to upgrade.  I am really only interested in the capability to display what is on my computer screen on my television set (via A/V reciever).  It is not clear to me whether I need to purchase a TV/Tuner Card with Video Card cabalities or if I can just get by with a new video card that has video in and out on it.  Is there such a thing and would this meet my objective?  If this would meet the objective of displaying my media center program on my TV screen, what video cards (not TV Tuner cards) are compatible?

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Hi Paul,

You need a TV Tuner card if you specifically want to receive TV signal (from an antenna or cable).  Otherwise you only need a video card (to play from a video file on your hard disk, for instance, and display it on TV set). In latter case the only question is whether the video card supports video out. I think most video cards do.
