Title: MC18 won't recognize brand new iPod

Just bought this iPod 20 minutes ago - 16GB nano, plugged it in and this is all I get from Media Center

I tried to re-detect devices.  I tried unplugging and re-plugging the unit back in several times.  I closed and restarted Media Center.

The Media Center version I have is 18.0.206 on Window 7

Any suggestions?

Yea, ok -- I searched the forum for the error string, and kept digging.  I guess MC doesn't support new iPods anymore?  I have an old version of iTunes on this PC and I launched that and even it wouldn't recognize the stupid device -- telling me to upgrade iTunes.  I hate iTunes with a passion.  It is a real shame that Apple takes such a draconian policy with their devices making it very difficult for 3rd party software to integrate.

If anything ever changes and someone has a workaround or develops a workaround I would love to hear about it (no I don't want to buy some other piece of software that syncs files between iTunes and MC).

Frustrated and disappointed.

I got the same problem

your ipod could not be identified.
Please check for an updated vesion of Media Center

I dream of the day that I can remove every single element of itunes from my computer and sync my horridly expensive telephone and ipad.  I think they spend time developping new versions just to force people to have to go to back to their proprietary software after a work-around has been found.

Imagine having to "jailbreak" a PC or a power mac ?!

Sorry, nobody needs to hear my bitching sessions, couldn't help myself :-X

I agree.  Itunes is the worst piece of software I ever used.  I hate using it.

I have resisted getting ipods, ipads, and iphones because of the crappy software.  My wife just got an ipad for when she goes on walks and syncing it is a nightmare as I do not want to have to have yet another library of files on my computer...

drag and drop straight into the device would be way easier...

Similar issue just last week (Win8, MC V18, Ipod classic).

Change the drive letter for any internal or external drive away from "e".  As soon as "E" was free, Windows and MC saw the IPOD and synced just fine.
