Many thanks! :) However, while audio streaming to "This Device" works fine, video streaming to "This Device" doesn't seem to work. Any suggestions?
-
Works great! Thanks!
-
Wonderful. Thank you very much. :)
-
Better than previous version which crashed every other song on my iPad mini 1
This version still crashing relatively often; not stable like previous version on previous version of iOS
-
Thanks for the quick turn around JRiver. Works in all the important ways; however, can anyone confirm if "Assets" work or not? For me, it doesn't!
-
The app automatically updated on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.4 and now it crashes immediately upon start. Is there a way to revert back to 3.10?
Here are the crash logs:

Assets are working for me on ios 9. The ios update is a barrel of fun every year.

Hi there,
Sorry to post this question in this thread. Just updated the iOS 9 and jremote update. And could not get to the settings tab to add new music servers. It is just me or do others have the same issue. Thanks for the update and keeping current with the OS
-
Many thanks for this, now controlling Stream Magic OK!
:)
-
Well done!

Did you try powering down and back up on both sides?

Re: Video Streaming - This still works fine using WebGizmo, but no longer works (at least for me) using JRemote. I notice in the App Store "Details" description of this version that, while there is an extensive description of JRemote's audiio streaming capabilities (i.e., "JRemote lets you stream all your audio files to the device itself..."), there is no longer mention of any video streaming capability. Clarification would be most appreciated.
-
I can also confirm that even though video quality settings are still present, videos no longer plays. Is JRiver committed to supporting videos in future versions of JRemote?
-

Assets don't work for me either on the new version; using 5s.
-
Double checked on "Assets" feature this morning. Still not working! iPad mini 1 and iPhone 5s both with iOS 9. Worked before the JRemote update.
-
I installed JRemote for iOS 9 on my iPad mini and my iPod. While I still can play audio files from my library, I can't get any video to play. When I click on a video, the player opens but never starts playing. This used to work just fine. My server runs Win10 Pro with JRiver 21.
-
Did you try powering down and back up on both sides?
Thanks, that seems to have worked.
-
I can confirm here that video streaming is not working on my iPhone 6, nor my iPad Mini 2. Haven't tried with my iPad 3 yet.
Everything else seems to be fine. Audio streaming works fine (both on LAN and over Internet).
-
Haven't tried with my iPad 3 yet.
Just tested iPad 3, not working on that either.
-
All good on iPad Mini 2 here. Thanks. :D
-
No video on iPhone 6+ either.
And what's this 50% in top left?

I merged in a couple of additional posts about Video not working which were in a separate thread. Figured since this one mentioned video not working in the very first post, it was better to have one thread than two.

I also split out the posts about connection difficulties, as suggested by Jim earlier, here:

Video works fine on my iPhone 4s with iOS 8.4 and JRemote v 3.20.
I'm wondering if it's an iOS9 only issue or a 64 bit vs 32 bit iOS issue..
I'm not ready to upgrade my 4s to iOS9 quite yet. Is there anyone out there with a 32 bit device (like an iPhone 4s or iPhone 5 (no suffix) that is running iOS9 that can give us a report on video?
-
I updated on my iphone 6 and it's working fine! I use it for audio only so can't comment on video issues. The only thing is the little "50%" thing in the upper left hand corner in the now playing screen.
Thanks so much for getting this updated quickly! We really appreciate all you guys do!

The iPad 3 is 32 bit only, and report above indicates that doesn't work either. I haven't tried with mine yet to confirm though.
For the record, if you're on iOS 8, then iOS 9 won't hurt performance on a 4s or 5. It isn't better, but also not worse. There's an article about it on Ars Technica.

I've tried several videos on my 4s with iOS 9 and JRemote 3.20. Playback won't start. The same issue is with my iPad Air 2 (iOS 9 and JRemote 3.20, too).

So, with that and with the previous report from the iPad 3, looks like it is a general conflict with iOS 9 and not something 64-bit specific.

Have you tried deleting and re-installing the app?
I don't have an iOS 8.4 64-bit device to test anymore, but others are still using the new version of JRemote with iOS 8.4 without issue (though the reports I've seen are for older 32-bit only CPU based devices).
-
Yes I've restarted, rebooted, deleted and then reinstalled but nothing. Did the crash logs help?
Is the IPA of the previous version available?

Just tested on my wife's iPhone 5, no video with iOS9.

I don't think you can downgrade an app that way.
-
I have root access. I just need to load the ipa and since I bought it I should be good no?
-
I don't think you can downgrade an app that way.
No, you cannot, but I suggested he do that to see if it solved his crashing problems. The vast majority of crash-on-launch issues are due to either:
* Corrupt saved state data (which can be cleared in the Task Manager by swiping the app away, which also shuts the application down if it is still running but it almost certainly isn't unless it is playing audio or doing GPS in the background)
* Corrupted installation. This happens sometimes when you update to new versions of iOS, particularly if you have to do a wipe and restore from backup. To fix this, the simplest method is to just delete and re-download the app.
It has happened to me with JRemote before, so it was worth trying since the new built seems to fix it for most users.
-
I have root access.
You have a jailbroken device? That could be your issue right there. Who knows what is going on with it then.
Yes, even with a non-jailbroken device, you can roll back to a previous version through iTunes if you still have the ipa saved. You just have to delete the app off of the device, make sure iTunes doesn't get stupid and update the app (save the IPA somewhere safe in case), and sync it through iTunes. Instructions:
http://www.igeeksblog.com/how-to-re-install-older-version-of-apps-on-iphone-ipad/
Apple does NOT allow you to download old versions of the IPA unless your device/OS does not support the new version. So, you'll have had to have saved it somewhere. I don't think it would work if you got it from someone else because of the FairPlay encryption on the app package, but I don't have a copy anyway.
EDIT: Seems the last bit isn't true, at least according to the site I linked just above. They say if you get it from a friend, it should work. I don't have a copy though, so I can't help you.
-
Do you have a backup of your system? I still have the old ipa in my time machine backup on my Mac.
-
Same issue with version 3.20 on two different iPads.
As far as I see, the new version does not show the Album interpret - see attachment.

Is this a change from 3.1 ? I see this same result on my 4s but only on 1 Album.

Thank you, but iTunes on my Mac Mini had the older version and got it back on my iPhone. All is finally good. Four days without music… went into withdrawal mode.
I hope this will be addressed on future versions of JRemote.

Dear Bob,
on a second iPad with version 3.10 connected to the identical database, album artist is shown correct.
Next, on my ipad with 3.20 I do not have this problem with all albums, but with most of them.
-

Same device; iPad Mini 2 Retina w/ Cellular running iOS 8.4 and works fine with the new JRemote 3.20. After backing up the IPA of 3.10 on my DropBox, I tried installing 3.2 again on my iPhone and it's a no go. Crashes immediately. This issue is iPhone 6 specific running 8.4.

I still can't get video to work on my iPad. I am running the latest everywhere. On my server, I backed up my library and then uninstalled everything. I re-installed thereafter and restored the library. It made no difference. I am trying to play from an iPad as well as an iPod. Neither one works.
On the server, I looked at the activity log in 'Media Network' and one difference I see b/w a client PC that's connected to the server is that the PC when it starts playing performs a GET of http://10.10.10.2:52199/MCWS/v1/File/GetFile?File=filno. I can see that the whole file is being loaded. I would expect the iPad to do the same, but I don't even see this GET request at all. Everything up to this point is working. i.e. file enumeration is working, I see the thumb nails, etc. It's also working when I try to play audio. Just video is not working.
-
I generally playback music using the minimal "media server" function only and controlling with JRemote.
Since iOS 9 this method only plays back the first song in a playlist - and then loses connection to the playlist (the now playing shows only first song, even though it started with a full playlist displayed). I have to restart JRiver itself to get everything to work again.
If I run the full JRiver MC (not just media server) I don't experience this problem.
I'm running MC 20, JRemote, and Windows 7 64 bit. Everything has updated versions.
I've done things like restarting the server, etc. Doesn't help.
-
Hello,
The last version (3.20) does not load the pdf booklets for iPad2.
Also, the sample rate is not shown correctly for 24/176 files in the "playlist" view (please see the file attached)
I would also like to be able to see the playlist with a left-swipe action while reading a pdf booklet without closing it. In the previous (working) version, you need to close the booklet to check the playlist.
Thank you.
-
Hello,
The last version does not load the pdf booklets for iPad2.
The fix is apparently in the Apple Store pipeline
-
3.2.1 is downloading for me now.
-
Yes, 3.21 has fixed the booklet issue.
However, addressing the other points would be highly appreciated.
-
I am using 3.2.1 with iOS 9.0.1 on my ipad3, iphone5 and ipod6.
Predominately I play the music to the iDevice and then on to a DAC. I have spotted two problems, both small but the first is annoying. Actually having written the detail down then both are annoying.
1. On all devices if I pause a piece of music and then hit the iDevice Home button this unpauses the music. I can go back to the app and press pause again but Home will do the same again. The only get around I have is to press Stop which cancels the track.
2. On the iPhone and iPod if I am not already connected to a JRiver server the settings icon is inactive. So I can't add a server. I had to delete the app and re-install it to add the server which is at my current location. When I go home next week I will have to either delete the app. to put in my home servers or carry a server home under my arm.

I split out a bunch of posts about accessing Settings in JRemote from the "unable to connect to server" page, and merged them with an already going thread. It's over here: Can't Access Settings in JRemote With Invalid Server(s) Added (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=100727.0)
If you have any more comments or news about this, please post them in that thread.

Tapping the search icon in JRemote on my iPad mini (IOS9) closes the app?!?
Am I the only one seeing an issue with the search function?
note: I see that the problem is being addressed, sorry for my post.
-
Confirming that I see this on iPad mini 2..

Would someone with a iPhone 6 and or 6s send some screenshots of JRemote in action to bob (at) jriver (dot) com?
Need a few new ones for the app store and we don't have those models.

Let me know if you want iPad versions of the same ones, or anything different.
Also, if needed, I have a few albums by a friend that I could get to release album art permissions for... That will pretty strictly limit the things I can screenshot, but if you want something, I could cough up a few.
-
Actually that would be kind of cool; see if you can show just albums whose owners are not paranoid about money or lawyers; probably that is quite an eclectic collection; it might even go viral..

I don't think Apple would recognize the distinction, and it won't work without their approval, no matter how silly the process may be.

Does JRemote not rotate into landscape mode?
I'm thinking it should but I've never run on a phablet device.
IIRC it does rotate properly on a mini2 which is about the same resolution.
-
Thanks Bob,
There must be either a bug, or a setting I'm missing, because mine is locked in portrait orientation?
-
JRemote definitely supports landscape mode on iPhone 6+ and 6S+. I just tested it.
-
Any ideas why mine won't enter landscape mode?

You don't have rotation locked on the device do you?
JRemote rotates on my iPad and iPad Mini. It does not on my iPhone 6 (which is fine with me, it would be too hard to use in that orientation). I don't know about the Plus sized phones, as I don't have one and haven't tried it, but Hilton says yes, so...
But, you can lock rotation on iOS devices in control center:
http://www.iphonefaq.org/archives/972915
-
It's not locked, no. Other apps rotate just fine. I removed and replaced jremote, and then the first time I launched it, I held in landscape and it opened correctly, but then refused to rotate into portrait mode. I rebooted the phone, launched it again to have it locked in portrait mode again.
I'm stumped.
-
Google has the answer ;)
Seems to be an iOS bug.
Messing some more with JRemote this morning, it would still not auto rotate, but from portrait with playing now open, if I rotated the phone, the app remained in portrait, but if I then closed playing now, the reappeared in landscape, and if I then opened playing now again, it too was in landscape. Wierd and horrible.
I later noticed my home screen was not rotating either...
I had my display set to "Zoomed".
Returning that back to "Standard" has fixed everything, so, I guess for now "Standard" stays.
Thanks again for the replies.

-
I'm also having rotation issues on an iPhone 6s with iOS9.1 (latest build 13B143). All other apps on my phone that support rotation work fine, with only JRemote having a problem.
Although I can get the app to rotate the screen to landscape when I open the "playing now" window with the phone already in landscape orientation, the app never rotates any screen to landscape when I have the app open in portrait orientation and rotate the phone to landscape, and never rotates any screen other than "playing now" when opened when the phone is in landscape orientation.
The only screen that appears to support landscape is "playing now", and then only when the phone is already in landscape orientation when that screen is opened.
I'd really like the app to enable rotation switching as the phone is rotated, and to allow all windows to rotate, not just "playing now".
-
I'm pretty sure it's only supposed to work in landscape on 6+ or 6s+ or iPads. The 6 and 6s don't landscape home screen do they?
-
I'm not sure, being an i-tech newbie, but, the behaviour described by David is exactly the behavior I was experiencing on the 6s+.
David, is your view set to "Zoomed" or "Standard"?
If it is "Zoomed" try setting it to Standard and see if that corrects things.
If it does, I don't know how you determine if that is an Apple bug, or a JRemote bug. I decided not to go there and just leave it on "Standard".
-marko
-
It's set to standard and rotation is not locked.
-
I had my display set to "Zoomed".
Returning that back to "Standard" has fixed everything, so, I guess for now "Standard" stays.
Ahh, of course. I didn't think of that.
That's not a bug, Marko. That's by design. When you set it to Zoomed, then the screen real-estate you have on a Plus sized device is identical to the non-Plus phones in Standard mode. So, it switches rotation to behave like a standard sized device. Some apps do rotate on 6/6s sized devices. But others (like JRemote) only rotate on Plus or iPad sized devices.
I'm pretty sure it's only supposed to work in landscape on 6+ or 6s+ or iPads. The 6 and 6s don't landscape home screen do they?
Correct. And if you put your Plus into Zoomed mode, then it (effectively) is a 6/6s sized device.
The rule of thumb is: JRemote will rotate if your home screen icons rotate. Otherwise, it is locked to portrait, just like the home screen.
-
Thanks Glynor.
Thing is, if the home is not rotating, JRemote does (on this 6s+, zoomed), but in a wierd way...
To replicate:
JRemote, main interface on show, turn screen to landscape, JRemote does not rotate, as expected, right?
Now bring up the playing now screen. It displays in landscape mode. Not expected?
Now close playing now, and the main interface appears in landscape mode. Not expected?
It makes it feel broken.
