Title: Lyric finder doesnt work
Post by: 1ns4nity on November 07, 2003, 02:34:50 am
Hi. I downloaded an installed lyric finder and it doesnt seem to work at all.
Why i hit the auto batch submit/get lyrics button, all it does it move through selecting all the files in the list and the lyrics for none of the songs turn up! :( THe interferace is not very friendly.....

Also would it be possible to just look up the lyrics for up SINGLE song in my playing now list? That would be really helpful

To do a single file just put a single file in your playing now playlist.

If it's not returning anything it probably means it's not finding the lyrics to any of your songs.
Could be you have them written slightly differently to the ones submitted already - go to the website and manually look up a few songs - see whats different about the names of how they're saved there compared to the names of yours - I did that and spotted why mine weren't being found.

Gee that means everytime i want to look up the lyrics of 1 song i have to kill my entire playing now list? Thats not ver y good....

Well the lyric finder in ChartFinder seems to be able to find the song but lyricfinder cant. Chartfinder's interface is even more confusing, but looks like lyric finder doesnt do much better :(

Hey King,

Could it be something wrong with the new version?
I tried to get songs for Blind Melon and it batches, but doesn't pick anything up.

It's the same problem that Ins4n1ty is having.

Insanity your problem should be fixed

it's working now

i changed it yesterday at noon to see if it would fix someones problem to access the website. and it did (they have a firewall that blocks this port. but i was not thinking about the program has a fixed port number.

i think i will need to leave it where it is at or change the plug-ins a bit.

Wicked. Thanks for fixing it and replying so quickly. :) Does lyric finder use a different system from chartfinder to locate lyrics?

I have one suggestion still about being able to select a single or multiple files from the list to retreive lyrics for. I think it would be a nice feature to add. Anyway, thanks again.

Hi KS - it's not anyone's firewall that's the problem.  Your choice of port 12345 happens to be blacklisted by several ISPs, including Shaw in Canada.  It's the same port a known (and bad) backdoor trojan uses, and is typically blocked by default.  There's nothing I can do on my own system to get it to work.

So I hope you're able to get your site working on some other standard port, otherwise your plug-in is as blacklisted as a trojan.  :(

Patiently waiting to do another lyrics update...

-Doug

well i do know 80 works good for you but what ports would be good?

Besides i have been thinking about this.

and if you ever noticed the program will get program update notices

the really come from

http://home.nc.rr.com/mycddblookup

and i was thinking about adding this

http://home.nc.rr.com/mycddblookup/IPAddress.Dat
http://home.nc.rr.com/mycddblookup/Port.Dat

so when the program runs it will get my current port and Ip Address

From what I've been reading, basically anything _but_ 12345 is fine.  ("Isn't It Ironic" by Allanis Morisette is going through my head.)  Apparently the trojan is called Netbus and was the precursor to BackOrifice.  Many ISPs blocked it when the trojan was rampant, and several (including my cablemodem provider...) never did unblock it after the trojan ran its course.

On a _very_ happy note, I just discovered that using a public proxy service I can bypass Shaw's blacklist and hit your web site and plug-in!  Whoohoo!  Though these public proxies are typically fly-by-night so there's no guarantee how long it'll serve my purpose.  However I'll be a very happy man until you're able to decide on whatever course of action lets everyone get to your site.

Take care,

-Doug

you can have the top 10 proxies e-mailed to you every morning free if you need them (some i used for over 2 weeks).

but i will make changes to Lyrics finder and Chart finder and make a port change and see how that works

this program was updated

It and chart finder now looks for my IP address and port number and if it changed it will use the new IP address and port number.

The port number is currently 12345 and when i change the data file it looks for on the internet then it should point to my site what ever I set it too. I may change it tomorrow but i wanted to wait to see if anyone is having problems with the new version first.

the changes were really minor and only deals with the IP address and port number.

KIng - When Lyrics finder or chart finder is started in MC plug in manager and you then go back in to stop it, plug in manager thinks it's not started so only offers the 'start' option.  So to stop it you have to start it (when it's already running) and then stop it.  This causes a media core crash every time.

It took me a heck of a time downloading it as the website is still on port 12345, but I've got it installed now and am eagerly anticipating your changes on the back-end.  Great work KS!

It's been around for ages but I never bothered reporting it as i don't use plug ins that much and it was no big deal.  Does it happen to anyone else?

last night i changed the port to 8080

the only problem i seen was user 218.102.99.107 was searching (i had to ban him from the ftp site for last night) when i woke up i un-baned him and i guess everything is now working for him since i now see that that user is accessing the http site.

once the port number changed it looked on a web site that he had no access too, then the prog submited lyrics that i may have already had on the FTP server.

what i guess needs to happen is to check that access to the Http server is ok and if not update the port\ip address.
