Title: Headphones have no sound [Solved]
Post by: hbarfarkle on October 07, 2020, 05:30:22 pm
Since I installed MC 27, My new Sony wireless noise cancelling headphones won't work.  They worked fine on MC 26.  I get a message saying "playback could not be started on the output 'Core Audio' using the format '44.1 kHz 2ch'.  This output format may not be supported by your hardware.  You can use,DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format.  Can anyone help me?

A lot of the bluetooth devices only run on 48k.
You can set that in DSP studio as Jim said.
Also, you may have to disable "exclusive access" in MC's Audio device options if it's enabled.

I have a similar issue with my Project Bluetooth Receiver.
After upgrading to Media Center 27 (27.0.50) my MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (both OS Catalina) seem to have a compatibility issue with JR MC27 and the connected Bluetooth Device "Project BT E box"
The error displayed is:
"Something went wrong with the playback.
Details:
Playback could not be started on the output Core Audio using the format 44.1 kHz 2channel.
This format may not be supported by your hardware. You can use DSP Studio to change the output to a compatible format.
Also make sure your system has a valid sound playback device and that is properly configured in playback options"

I tried several suggestions i.e. changing all outputs in DSP Studio to 96kHz, reset Bluetooth on the receiver and on the MAC's
Apple's Music App works just fine, also Media Center 27 running on the iMac (OS High Sierra) does not seem to have a problem with my Bluetooth Receiver.

Any Suggestions?

Fixed the issue!! Much appreciated.
Any idea as to why it worked OK in the past on both "Catalina" and "High Sierra"?

Cheers

Well, maybe the system mixer was resampling to 48 kHz in the background?

Most Bluetooth devices' codec(s) don't support 44.1 kHz or 96 kHz or anything else, usually only supporting 48 kHz which with MC (unless being resampled by the system mixer) will display that error unless you set DSP Studio > Output Format > Sample rate and resample everything to 48,000 Hz.
