Title: New laptop buffering issues
Post by: samwisesam on January 13, 2017, 12:17:08 pm
Hi,

I've just opted for a better spec laptop,  SSD, I 5 processor, 8 GB RAM. I had to reload MC 16 and set up the configuration again. I use powerline gigabit connection. Laptopl language is gigabit also. I had no problems on last laptop with buffering.  Same set up but using MC 16 with windows 7. But new laptop is windows 10.  I can't remember the buffering settings on my old laptop/mc 16 set up. But I've followed guidance on computer audiophile site.  But I Get buffering every few tracks which can last minutes!  I've tried rebooting to clear caches etc. But no joy. Any advice on settings?

Pre buffering 20 seconds _ it was less but hasn't resolved by increasing.
Buffering 2 seconds.

Thanks Jamie

You might try MC22.

Are the files local?  Or on a network drive?

What kind of files?  FLAC?

All flac files converted with dbpoweramp on compression 5 setting. I am using a NAS via LAN/powerline connection. Never an issue on old laptop using 100 mb LAN connection. I thought moving to SSD and gigabit L A N would have been better!

Cheers

Could you try copying a few files to the local drive and playing them there?

no buffering from hard drive of laptop. I've updated the lan drivers but still happening. Anything to do with buffering settings? Or is it an issue with LAN connector, cable or network. But the cable and network worked without buffering on old laptop.

cheers

not sure if this is related as this occurred after I stopped using MC and was using the internet but similar drop outs occured when streaming video

Name resolution for the name wpad timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.

There are similar DNS server errors in the event log.

You've eliminated Media Center as the possible cause now.  It's probably in the network somewhere.

Try powering everything down and back up.  All PC's, network equipment, etc.

You said that you're using Ethernet over Powerline.  Try plugging the laptop into a different outlet.

Make sure you have the laptop plugged into power when you're testing.  It's possible that the power settings on the laptop are affecting speed of the connection.

One by one, try eliminating each of the possible causes.  Switch network cables, for example.  Simplify your network.  Etc.

Antivirus is also a possibility.
