Title: VST/Au plug-in Q
Post by: njonker on September 05, 2017, 03:51:54 pm
Is it possible to use VST or Au plug-in chains in MC? I'd like to insert a Waves C6 when playing back under certain circumstances, and can't quite figure out how.

OS X 10.11, latest version of the Waves software, and the Au compatibility pieces have been setup and appear to be working on this machine.

I looked in the forum and the Wiki but can't seem to find an answer.

VST plugins *should* work, according to this topic: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=106063.0

Just make sure it's a 64-bit VST plugin (for the MC for Mac).

Also here's a general comparison between the Windows and Mac versions of MC (which comes in handy in knowing what the Mac version supports and what it doesn't): https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,97363.0.html

Thanks for the link to the other thread, I am still am having issues getting this to work.

My setup:
- Mac Mini with OS X 10.11.6
- MediaCenter 23.0.20
- The latest WavesCentral 1.3.3.4 and made sure I have the 9.2.0 versions of C4 Multiband Compressor and L1 Ultramaximizer installed and licensed

For Verification:
- Steinberg CuBase lets me insert either plugin on a channel with no problem, so I am certain the plugins work on this system

What I tried:
- Open MediaCenter
- Go to Tools --> Options --> Audio --> Settings --> DSP & Output Format; I see the DSP Studio window
- Click Manage Plugin --> Add JRiver, VST, or Winamp Plug-in, I get a file picker
- I navigate to Macintosh HD --> Library --> Audio --> Plugins --> VST, the only thing shown is WavesShell-VST 9.91.vst
- I select that and pick Open, I get an error dialog saying "Failed to install plug-in".

Undoubtedly, I am not doing something correctly here.  Could someone point me in the right direction?

Niels.

Sounds like the correct procedure to me.  I haven't done this in a while, but your basic steps look correct.  I've had a LOT of trouble trying to get VST plugins to work.  What I mean is, I have tried perhaps 12 to 15 plugins and have only gotten 1 or 2 to work.  I'm not sure why.  ...and frankly it doesn't matter to me as I was just playing with them.  I have no real desire to use a VST plugin.  MC's DSP does everything I personally need it to do.

I recognize that your desires might be very different than mine.  I was just sharing my experience and my views about that experience.  Good luck.

Brian.
