Title: New Media Center build for the Id available
Post by: bob on October 13, 2015, 11:58:32 am
Now up, MediaCenter 20.0.140-43.

MediaCenter 20.0.140-43 (9/23/2016)

1. Fixed: Random crashes in the internet reader, more common on busy DLNA networks. Should noticeably improve stability.
2. Changed: More Panel fixes and tweaks.

MediaCenter 20.0.140-22 (8/5/2016)

1. Changed: More Panel functions and fixes to some of the control panel networking functions.

MediaCenter 20.0.140-20 (7/19/2016)

1. NEW: Panel beta.
2. NEW: Engen Z-Wave server.
3. Fixed: Some segfaults caused by network reads.

MediaCenter 20.0.138

1. Fixed: CIFS (windows/samba/nas) shares that were in your auto-import list were unwatchable so changes didn't automatically show up. Now they are scanned every two hours like other unwatchable folders.
2. Fixed: Some crashes caused by misbehaving DLNA devices which made MC restart.
3. NEW: Add disk buffering disable for media network advanced options (added in 20.0.136)
4. NEW: Add DLNA version 3 control capabilities, required for some devices.

MediaCenter 20.0.133 with fixes backported from MC21.

1. Changed: Windows redraw better.
2. Fixed: Issue with crashes when closing the tree during playback when the cover art is displaying in the action window. This could possibly help with other sizing issues.
3. Fixed: Leaving fullscreen mode (ie when playing video fullscreen) returns MC to the state is was in before entering fullscreen mode.
4. Fixed: MC behavior with multiple monitors (xrandr) and fullscreen mode.
5. Fixed: The cursor will be hidden in fullscreen mode.

You can get it by using the update function from the Id Menu.
When you are finished the displayed versions should be 20.0.100 and 20.0.138

It can take a while to download, depending on the connection.  Try leaving it alone for a few hours.

You've just hit one of those periods when the update server is disabled since we are beta testing the next update.
Will post here when it's ready.

I've had to restore one of my Ids but now can't even restore to the last version of firmware.   I'm stuck with whatever version was on the usb stick.

I tried the restore image from the other thread but it doesn't seem to update.   Any thoughts?

Is the update server available? I restored my ID and now it is not updating. I am stuck with a very old version with no NAS support

No, the update server is disabled for beta testing of the next build. The best revision of MC for the Id at this time is 20.0.118
If the beta takes much longer, I may revert to that on the update server.

Hi, three ID's...

Two are at 20.0.100 and 20.0.118 per main menu......and repeated attempts at "12 Check for updates" doesn't seem to get anywhere.
The third is at ?.?.? .....mainmenu doesn't provide version info......where can you find version ?
and at 20.0.93. Check for updates same as above...

Thanks, Mark

I have yet to switch to MC 21 on my main PC.  But I am still trying to troubleshoot a remote Id running wireless that that my main PC MC fails to recognize most of the time.  Should I move ahead and download the new Id version of MC without upgrading to MC 21?  I am also wondering if the following question from my last post ties in with MC's sporadic recognition of the Id (?):

"...on my Windows PC main MC -- on the left navigation under Network and Explorer, the Id's name appears BUT it also has a RED "X" across it.  What does this mean?  I may have de-activated it by accidentally "clicking" where I shouldn't have (?).  How do I fix this?"

Thanks guys.

Try updating the Id.  As far as I know, it works with MC20.

But if MC20 isn't recognizing the Id sometimes, it would be worth installing MC21 to try it.  You can leave MC20 installed.

Don't know what the red X means but you could try looking on your wireless router for multicast filtering (it should be off if it exists). Also, try assigning a fixed lease to the Id so it's IP doesn't change when it reboots.

Nice. Love your work.

My Id is showing up with MediaCenter 20.0.140-21

Was something added to a later build or did you have a bot of binary-transposition-itis going on (the top of the board currently shows - MediaCenter 20.0.140-20)?

Since upgrading, I'm unable to see my id on my network.  The DLNA servers are still there but in terms of accessing the hard drive of the ID, they are no longer available.  Even when I type the address of where the ID is I can't find it.

Any thoughts? All my other machines are Windows.

Thanks!

My other (non-updated) Id shows up on my network and I can copy files onto its hard drive without issue.

Is it only that the drive share isn't showing up?

When did you update it? There was a really brief time when the update was going live that it wasn't complete.

Yes.  It's only the drive share.

I don't remember what time I did the update but it was the first day it was announced.  I did try option 12 again but nothing changed.

There is an issue in the network setup that's messing with the SAMBA share.

We added a function to MCWS to reset the networking information, it seems however it's not hooked up yet, we will get that fix out tomorrow.
Title: Re: New Media Center build for the Id available
Post by: bob on August 05, 2016, 05:02:39 pm
The fix for SAMBA networking is live now.

You can do the usual Id update (menu item 12) to get it.

If you had issues with seeing the Id share you can do this to fix it:

http://192.168.1.100:52199/MCWS/v1/Settings/RemoveNetworkConfiguration

and reboot.

Replace 192.168.1.100 with your own Id IP address (Function 11 from the main menu or use MC on a PC or Mac, right click on the Id zone and do "Show Device Webpage" to get the IP).

Hi Jim,
I'm still using the ID and it sounds superb - every one impressed.
I'd like to be able to view the gui and/or investigate diagnostic methods from a romote PC (same local network and subnet)
I saw a suggestion to use VPN or RDP. Can you advise if there is any setup in the ID for either of these - where is it controlled?
Is the VPN PPTP, IPsec, L2TP, or other type?
When using RDP what port does the ID listen on is this the standard 3389 or other.
Also does the ID have any sort of VNC base client built into it, if so what port does to listen on and whar can it be configured (username, password etc)

I can't find any information about this.

Thanks for your help as ever.

Regards

Make sure your Id is up to date.  It supports Remote Desktop connections.  I believe it's the standard port.  Password is remote, but you can change it on the text menu.

Also, take a look at the new web application called Panel (in a thread on the MC22 board).  If you use it to connect to the Id, you can use the settings icon at the bottom to change some things on the Id.  It's a work in progress.

Also consider using Tremote.  It's in the Media Network topic on our wiki.

I saw this show up:
Code: [Select]

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be upgraded:
  mediacenterid
1 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 33.3 MB of archives.
After this operation, 3047 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Get:1 http://superid.jriver.com/aptidpimcid/debian/ jessie/main mediacenterid armhf 24.0.16 [33.3 MB]

How cool is that?

What did you guys load into the package?

It's the current linux stable build.
The general idea is to make the mediacenterid builds update with the hardware license not the MC version.
There is limit to how much that can be done. When the image requires major changes, like for the Pi 3B+ we'll have to cut a new image from scratch, then the only way to update the card is to send it back for re-imaging.

I have been trying to run the latest update for my Id and since then nothing works anymore. Versions in ID screen say: Id:20.0.100 MC:20.0.141-7

MC pops up and then disappears. I have tried various restarts and software updates.

ID is connected via LAN to Synology NAS and then BelCanto DAC. On the same LAN I also have a Windows 7 PC that runs MC 23. On the PC I can play music through speakers.

JRemote also doesn't connect anymore.

Everything worked fine with exactly the same setup until I tried to run a software update on the Id.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot are welcome.

Thank you.

If you decide to update, you will need a new license. You can email deanna (at) jriver (dot) com with your NUC serial number to get a updated license.

If you using the Id as a server with a library you should make a backup of your library and media files stored on the Id (if any) first.

You can go directly from your version to the MC24 Id if you don't need to preserve data on the Id by following this thread:
https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,115523.0.html

To get from MC20 to current preserving your data you need to download the firmware update to MC22 first then update using that.
Next you can update the MC22 Id to the current revision by downloading the most recent firmware update from the thread above.

My main problem is that MC pops up and then closes down and then opens up again on the ID. It is completely stable on my PC where I run MC23. I have no idea what lead to that, it is a new problem I never had before. The ID acts as a renderer only and is connected to a NAS and a BelCanto DAC. What should I do to stabilize the ID?

Have you added any devices on your network? This sounds like the Id has having an issue with a networked media device.

It's a bit of work but if you get the Id up to current it's more resilient against network errors.

Hi Folks,
I have just taken a deep breath and tried to update my jriver ID v22 to v24.
From reading I saw that I needed to conduct a firmware update so I followed the instructions in article 110326. All seemed to go OK but I don't have my library connected any more (No big deal as this is external on a Synology NAS) I also needed to reenter my licence details which I did through option 18 of the menu.

After all of this I am left with a system with:
ID 22.0.83 MC 23.0.102 ENGEN 1.0.69 the previous values were
ID:22.0.81 MC:22.0.112 ENGEN 1.0.69

So I'm confused, where does the MC 23 feature in all of this. I tried one further update attempt but no change in status. What do I need to do to get version 24 onto my NUC ID ?

PS I used the idxrepair3.img and rufus2.3 to build the USB stick all booted and updated OK (or appeared to)

Also I did backup my media libarary and I did try its restoration but I still don't connect to my NAS. Any reason for this . . . but most important is to get the v24 finished.

Thanks

PS I used the idxrepair3.img and rufus2.3 to build the USB stick all booted and updated OK (or appeared to)

Also I did backup my media libarary and I did try its restoration but I still don't connect to my NAS. Any reason for this . . . but most important is to get the v24 finished.

Thanks

This is correct. The USB update image is a bit old. The important thing is that it installs the Media Center Id firmware. If you're running Media Center 23 on the Id, then it has the Media Center Id firmware. To get to Media Center 24, you just need to update from the main menu (option 12). However, the update server was disabled because of the recent server hack. The update server should be working as of a couple of minutes ago, so try the check for updates from the Id main menu again.
