Title: CD - no files found on disc
Post by: MajorCyco on September 19, 2021, 04:37:20 pm
I am running MC 28 on my iMac.  When I insert a CD, I get a message from JRiver that no files were found on the disc.  The files can be read in Finder and through Apple Music.  I went back to MC 27 and am able to open the CDs without an issue.

Does MC 28 support ripping CDs?  The feature is there, just can't use it.

Also tried rebooting and verifying my settings in MC 28 are the same as MC 27.  Still can't see CDs.

I haven't tried recently but ripping CDs has been a bit of a toss-up for me in MC. So I switched to XLD for ripping

I used to use XLD.  May have to go back as not able to get any MC 28 support.  :(

There are several posts about this in the forums.
The main problem is that the Mac or other apps installed on it will try to control the CD when it's inserted.

In iTunes make sure the "iTunes Helper" isn't being started on login.
In System Preferences under CD's and DVD's set "when you insert a music CD" to Ignore.
In Apple Music the ability to completely remove Apple Music control over the CD has been eliminated by Apple. The best you can do in Apple Music Preferences is to do the following:
Under the General Tab:
Uncheck "Automatically retrieve CD track names from the internet"
When CD is inserted "Ask to import CD" appears to be the minimal we can do here.

Once you do this, even on Big Sur you should be able to rip without issue.
Here is a screenshot from my M1

I read the Mac posts on this issue and there are several.  One stated that they reported it and have heard nothing, and two others said they are using the third party XLD as a work around.

I am on Big Sur, so no iTunes.  My settings are the same as yours in Apple Music.  Unfortunately the message I get from MC 28 is...

"There is no disc.
Insert a disc and double-click here to refresh"

Double-clicking or refreshing does not resolve the issue.  When I try this in MC 27, no issues at all.  I also compared my settings from MC 27 to MC 28 and they are identical.  I would think that if it an Apple setting, it should affect MC 27, but that is not the case.  My MC 27 looks like your MC 28 screen shot.

Another thing I tried doing is setting in my Preferences that when a music CD is detected, it opens MC 28.  Still can't see the CD, but the message is different.

"No files were found on disc.
Double click here to re-analyze the disc."

Again double-clicking or refreshing does not resolve the issue.

How about access to removable volumes?
