Title: Mac User Interface
Post by: Ursadorable on January 18, 2016, 06:29:22 pm
As a precursor, I used MC on Windows before switching to Mac.  The UI was a little 'off' from the Windows norm, but that's not unusual.

The Mac version of MC however doesn't follow any of the Mac UI conventions.  Drop down menus are non-standard, preferences is in the wrong place, and it doesn't follow the colour scheme that the UI is set to.

Is there any plans on making the Mac version follow the Mac UI standards at some point down the road?

I can't speak to JRiver's plans, but this kind of thing has been talked about before with no real indication from JRiver on whether or not they want to change anything with the UI on the Mac version.

For a more native look to MC on Mac, you might consider the Fusion X4 or Fusion X3 skins:

The theme doesn't annoy me so much as the menu options and non-standard locations of menu options.  I'm sort of glad Apple moved away from the brushed metal look for iTunes however lol.

Yeah, the menus are totally non-Mac.  You'll get used to it pretty quickly... probably.  :)

The Options dialog, where you set almost every setting in MC is set up on a hot key for convenient access:  <Command> O .

If you're a seasoned user of MC on Windows, this will all be super duper familiar to you.  There are only a few differences like visualizations, theater view, and drives and devices.  (None of those work on Mac).

In my opinion, MC for Mac is head and shoulders *the* best library manager and player for Mac.  It's not perfect, but it's the best.

There's many things who aren't in the mac version not only 3d view and such.

But even with those miss, MC stay the best on mac yes :)

^ I don't know about "many", but there are definitely differences.  Glynor lays it all out pretty comprehensively here:

i came from Audirvana software that was bugging for me at maximum rate for my DAC, yes upsampling files i found better.
JRiver too is buggy for me not at 176/192 rate upsampling, but like A+ at 352/384...
but JRiver can bitstream in DSD and output files in DSD or 2xDSD for my DAC....

Yes i agree it is not MAC, like it should be in many places...
but in the end, remote is way better, editing files too, and sound is great too, but different from A+....

Go MAC teams JRiver, be the best...
