Title: Flac conversion to mp3 reports conversion failed
Post by: AoXoMoXoA on September 21, 2012, 01:13:46 pm
This is still unchanged . . . cannot understand why MC17 successfully converts these while MC18 FAILS

When converting FLAC file to mp3 using MC18, MC reports failed conversions.

This is happening repeatedly and on several different folders of flac's on several separate attempts.
File that were eventually converted successfully after several tries show the mp3's as bad using AudioTester (lost sync errors).

The FLAC files show no errors detected by AudioTester.

These same FLAC files can be successfully converted using dbPowerAmp Music Converter, and the resulting mp3's show no errors detected by AudioTester.

MC17 will also convert these same FLAC files sucessfully with no errors detected by AudioTester.

Seems to be an MC18 only issue.

I converted several folders of flacs to mp3 and then ran the AudioTester tool mentioned and did not see any errors.  Is there any more information you could provide on these?

well, let's see . . .

I've been converting FLAC's using the same source and destination folders, and the same settings inside MC for a long time with no issues.

Updating to MC18 began this problem. Since initial install of MC18 this has occurred each and every time.
Reverting to MC17 the same files converted with no problems.
Moving back to MC18 (even with new and different files) the problem once again is always there.

Not every files claims is reported to fail or tests badly, only some. I've had albums where it was near every file, others it is one or two bad files.

No other factor I can see except the upgrade to MC18.

I have been converting to mp3 outside MC18 since I reported this initially, except for a test when moving to the current build which still showed the problem to exist . . .

But, if it would help I will try MC18 again and send you a sample track of both the FLAC and the bad mp3 that results . . .

Aoxo's post pretty much reflects issue for me to.

I'm using same source/destination folder
replace original files on disk and library
number of files to convert at same time 4
mp3 settings - extreme

This is not only the case with flac, if i convert let's say an album of 10 songs regardless what format and select convert 4 on the same time it gives me 2 or 3 failures and the first one that is succesfull is mixed up with the other 2 or 3 songs that failed!!
If I convert 1 file at a time of whatever format there is no problem

Indeed. Same issue here. It's not the files, it's whether you convert more than 1 at a time.

I can convert 100 files, process 1 at a time, no failures. When I choose to process 2 or more at the same time, failures consistently occur, with more failures when using more processes at a time. It seems to be random although at the start I almost always get 3 or 4 failures in the first 4 or 5 files with 4 processes at a time.

Edit: I have a log of a conversion with failures, let me know if you want to send it somewhere.

This seems to be reproducible.

I just converted two EAC ripped "wav + cue" albums to MP3 track files. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th file were indicated as failed and MC didn't create these MP3 files, and actually the first MP3 file was corrupted. I did this conversion three times and the problem was reproducible.

Here is a screencast video of the conversion process: http://sdrv.ms/VgUbgV (AVI, 24 MB)

I attached MC's log of the conversion process and a screenshot of the foobar2000 File Integrity Verifier result.

This should be fixed next build:
Fixed: Converting multiple audio files at one time could fail.

Thanks for the help.

It will be nice to move back up to MC18 again  :D

I've never successfully converted a single file from FLAC to MP3.

Please post details of what you're doing.  Conversion works.

Hi-Res files?  Special settings?  Cue files?  Stereo?  Bitrate?

Waste a post on giving us exact steps to reproduce.
