If you import both versions of the file into MC and do a new audio analysis on both files you can check if the Audio CRC value is the same for both files. If the Audio CRC is the same then the audio data hasn't been altered or corrupted.

The other way the file size could change would be that the tags got altered or modified.

One possibility there is that the file somehow got opened in Microsoft's Windows Media Player Legacy and that program updated the tags. The default settings for Microsoft's Windows Player Legacy is to "Update music files by retrieving media information from the Internet". And that can change the tags. Whenever I set up a new computer I make sure that Windows Media Player Legacy is configured so it does not update music files with data from the Internet.

Or you could have a third-party Windows Shell extension for File Explorer installed that updated the tags in that file.

To set the location where MC saves ripped CD files go to
Tools >> Options... >> File Location >> Audio (CD rips and Podcasts)
There you can set the folder and the naming rules

To copy files from your C:\RIP folder use the Rename, Move, & Copy Files dialog
Tools >> Library Tools >> Rename, Move, & Copy Files...
or right-click on selected files >> Library Tools >> Rename, Move, & Copy Files...

What you'll likely want to do is add C:\RIP to the folder(s) that MC watches and auto-imports to the library.
That will get the new files added to the library. Then you can right-click on the new files and use the Rename, Move, & Copy Files dialog to copy them to the location you keep your music files.

The Rename, Move, & Copy Files dialog is complex and powerful. Be careful when using it. Double-check things to make sure it is going to do what you want before hitting the OK button.

Windows Media Player goes through Windows' system mixer, so if whatever device you're trying to output to either only supports up to 192 kHz or doesn't support 352.8 kHz it'll silently resample it so it'll never be a bit-perfect output. MC doesn't do this and will display an error when it can't playback a file at the native sample rate of the file. If you get an error while trying to playback a 24-bit/352.8 kHz file in MC, it's a possibility. You should see what your DAC/receiver/renderer/etc. supports over whichever audio output you're using. How are you outputting the audio? USB? HDMI? Optical/Coaxial/SPDIF? DLNA? Some audio outputs have a lower supported maximum sample rate than others.

That said I don't know if MC actually supports DXD, assuming it's some sort of special format like MQA or DSD as I don't have any DXD content to test with. However if DXD is nothing but a downloaded 24-bit/352.8 kHz FLAC file for example, then it'll depend on what the maximum sample rate your DAC/receiver/renderer/etc. supports over the audio output you're using.

This question is not directly related to Media Center, but I hope you don't mind if I ask here anyway.

I experienced something strange when copying several terabytes of FLAC files from a NAS to another drive. I had to pause the operation once and resume it later. I made a note of which file was currently being copied when I hit pause, so that I could make sure that the file had also been copied in the end.

After the process had resumed and finished, the paused file was indeed copied – but I discovered that the copy and the original were not the same size.

Original size: 17 151 686
Copy size: 17 825 792

Both files can be played in Media Center without any problems, and when I convert them to .wav files, the wav files are identical in a file comparison.

Nothing seems to have happened with any other files, it was just the one in process of being copied when I paused the operation.

I have not seen such differences when copying files before, at least not without the copy being corrupt. Does anyone have an idea what may have happened?

You'll need to enable the long file name support in MC options.

I believe you'll also need to enable the long file name support in Windows as well.

Thank you very much for such valuable information! Unfortunately there is another MC32 problem for me - how can DXD audio files (PCM 24-bit 352.8 kHz) be played without external DAC? NOTE: MC32 can successfully decode and directly play all *.AIFF, *.WAV & *.FLAC audio files (PCM 24-bit 192 kHz).

The latest version 11.2403.5.0 of Windows Media Player supports DXD audio files (*.WAV 24-bit 352.8 kHz) and it can directly play those DXD audio files (purchased from www.hdtracks.com) to my LG OLED C2 TV via a HDMI 2.1 cable (without connecting to any soundbar or AV receiver).

But I cannot do the same thing with MC32, please kindly inform me how to solve this DXD problem. Thanks for your help and support again!

Yeah, I only need ASIO to be exclusive to workaround the audio renderer errors that appear attempting start video playback on YouTube in Chrome while using WASAPI exclusive, for example. I've explored other options but unfortunately I don't think there's any way around it other than ASIO exclusive. Schiit's ASIO worked beautifully this way but unfortunately for me DSD in my library became a thing. :P

So I did get a iFi ZEN DAC 3 and... as I was honestly expecting it doesn't use ASIO exclusive for PCM. I guess I have to finally accept that no matter what DAC I get, it likely doesn't support it. That said, I actually might've found a different workaround for the audio renderer error thing with WASAPI, we'll see.

The iFi ZEN DAC 3 is amazing, simply put. It plays everything I've thrown at it and more... I even got the infamous MQA working through MC32 to the ZEN DAC 3. I like the volume control too, so if I decide to replace my speakers with powered studio monitors I can control the volume with them and use balanced outputs to the speakers. I also picked up a pair of AT ATH-M50x's and they sound great too with the DAC and its built-in amp. So even though I'm a little bummed about ASIO exclusive not working for PCM I'm quite pleased with this DAC upgrade.

IF I replace my speakers with studio monitors right now the ones in consideration are the KRK 5" Classics, the KRK ROKIT 5s, the Yamaha HS5s and finally the Audioengine A5+s. Would love to hear if anyone is using any of them what they think. :)

Yes, those were ripped with MakeMKV in the last year or so.  The version of MakeMKV was current.

I tried AnyDVD (the last version supported with a "lifetime" license before RedFox got involved) and that was no better.

I would be inclined to agree that there are muxing errors, but remuxing using various tools has not helped.   For some reason VLC powers right through those errors, as do the other hardware / software platforms mentioned.  JRiver can power through but doing its own decoding of the TrueHD; but at the expense of some of the benefits of processing through the receiver.

Another murky title I have is David Gilmour's Remember That Night.   What is weird with that one is that my remux works fine; but when I play the original BluRay rip from the index file I get very strange behavior.   Audio and Video get very out of sync.   Those files also play fine on other platforms.   I didn't bring that up because I do have a fix of sorts. The remux is not an elegant solution but then again it does work.

Hendrik; your new engine is great and otherwise performs very nicely.  It is just this handful of titles that are funky.  The new engine, to me, is the most important improvement to JRiver in the last 10 years or so.

Is there an expression that would display all albums that have the same number of tracks and same total duration?
