Title: Need help with NAS/Network
Post by: Valvefan on October 24, 2010, 12:27:59 pm
Hi All,

I'm a network Newbie and getting frustrated setting up MC14 ?

I was hoping someone could give me some help getting MC14 to play files from my NAS.  I just built a Win7 computer and connected a NAS through a router to my PC.  The connection is via ethernet cable not wireless.  The files are on the NAS.  I have mapped the volume on the NAS and it has a drive letter assigned. I can make foobar2000 play the files so I think that the hardware is all OK.

When I try to play files using MC14 I get the following error messages:

"Media Center encountered errors.  Please make sure that the path in your media library points to the right location"

"Playback could not be started on the output WASAPI using the format 44100 khz, 24 bits per sample, 2 channels"

"This output format may not be supported my your hardware" - It is supported, It worked with files on an external USB drive

"Also make sure that your system has a vilid sound playback device"- It does

I would be very grateful for any help you could offer.
I am trying to create a very simple setup with just 1 computer connected to the NAS.

Thanks

Try switching playback in options to DirectSound or Wave Out.

If that doesn't work, backup your library, from File Library.

Clear the library.

Import from the drive where the files are.

If you prefer, you could just set up a second, test library.  File / Library / Library Manager.

I'm guessing that you had local files and moved them to the NAS outside MC.

Hi Jim

Thanks.  I recreated the library successfully.

I got MC14 to play in Direct sound mode but I really want to use WASAPI because it is recommended by the manufacturer of my DAC (it's an Ayre QB9).

Can you advise on how to get WASAPI wotking?

Thanks

Are you using Win7 or Vista?

This may help:

MC15 may also help.

Hi Jim,

I'm using Win7 and MC15.

No luck so far with WASAPI but ASIO4ALL is working. With WASAPI I get either stuttering on one occasion or usually just the error messages noted in my earlier post. Your link suggested that ASIO4ALL is no better than KS.  Is KS bit perfect?

I would like to make WASAPI work.  I have configured Win7 as recommended by Ayre Acoustics (I use a QB-9 DAC).

The PC has an ASUS AT5NM10-I motherboard, 4GB RAM, 60GD SSD and is operating fanless. Files come from a NAS via ethernet cable.

Any configuration advice would be appreciated

Do you have any experience with or advice regarding Thesylon's USB driver?  It was suggested as a solution on another forum.

Thanks
