A signature of the incompetent ripper
... you're assuming it's not self-ripped :P

You can try this:
https://checkmate.gissen.nl/

Note that it detects corrupt files, but not exactly "bad rips". That is, it checks the file structure and frame integrity, but doesn't help if the recorded data was already bad to begin with (which is more likely the problem).

Thanks Jim.

I unclicked Output Format and all went back to normal.

Regards,
George.

Dear All,

All of a sudden, after I broke my computer by fiddling around with the operating system, my DAC now always shows that my outputs are resampled to 48kHz. I have no idea how I did this, but could you help return my JRiver to play whatever the native resolution of the files are, please?

Looking at the little settings icon in the top bar, I see:

Adjust volume by -7.5 dB for Internal Volume
Resample 96 kHz to 48 with SSRC

My current version is JRiver 28.0.110 (Intel) for Mac.

With best regards,
George.

I am using Windows 10. When using Media center to play MIDI files, they always play on the Microsoft GS Wavetable synth.

It used to be that Windows provided a MIDI mapper application to select the default MIDI device globally at the OS level. Microsoft got rid of the MIDI mapper application in Windows 8, though one could still get the old binary to run.

In Windows 10, Microsoft rewrote the MIDI stack, and there is no longer any possibility of selecting the default MIDI device, unfortunately. It is now solely the responsibility of applications to select the MIDI device. And the default is always the Microsoft GS Wavetable. Sadly, even Microsoft's own Windows Media Player does not expose a setting for selecting the MIDI device. In fact, I spent the last couple of hours trying a whole bunch of programs. The only one that allowed selecting the MIDI device is one called MIDI-Ox, that was originally designed for Win95 and last updated in 2010. Its UI looks more like it's would fit well Windows 3.1, though. And to top it off, the website for the download was insecure.

I have a particular interest in using MUNT, a Roland MT-32 synthesizer emulator. It is not General MIDI compatible. It has the ability to load MIDI files and play them. There is no catalog management, obviously. However,  I also have a Roland VK-88  and Roland Fantom XR connected to a Roland UM-880 8-port MIDI interface, and for those MIDI-Ox is currently the only option.

I was wondering if there was any chance a selection dropdown for the MIDI device could be added to Media Center.
Anyone with MIDI hardware, or using a MIDI synth emulator like Munt, would run into this.

Until I find a better way to control font sizes in Theatre View, I've got closer to what I want by reducing the percentage value in Options > Theatre View > Appearance > Size.

On another topic related to Theatre View, I note that it is not affected by the Detached Display setting. The only way I have found to display Theatre View on my television is to first drag MC to the TV. I then have to drag it back to my PC monitor when I want to do other things with MC, which is a bit tedious. Is there a way to force Theatre View to appear on my television?

I found that Options > Theatre View > Appearance > File info panel templates was set to 'Theatre view file info templates (pre-MC32)'. I have now set that to 'Default' which I guess means I have now switched to the new templates.

However, when I open Customise file info panel... I still can't see any reference to variables.

EDIT:  I've now found that only 2 of the templates, Movie and TV Show (neither of which I use), contain VARIABLES. Why are they are missing from the other 8 templates?

Yes, you need to turn on Media Network, but be sure you have installed MC32 first.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Media_Network

One problem at a time, please.  Use Google search first, adding JRiver to your question.
