Title: Can multiple devices share a single library (MC27 upgrade related)
Post by: Drwho088 on August 03, 2020, 01:49:29 pm
Hi,
I was considering the MC27 upgrade to the all-license version, but have a related question....
Is it possible for the MC27 programs on different devices to share a single library (the MC27 library file, not the content itself)?
I currently have my content on a shared NAS, and would like to have a single library instance shared by both my Window's PC and a Macbook with copies of MC27 running on each.
thanks in advance

Yes.

Using the Client/Server functionality is the best way to do that, which means one PC must run as a MC Server using the "Media Network" functionality, and the other devices run as Clients. There are some caveats. You will need to understand how MC Client/Server works. This is the only way to do it if more than one computer will be using the Library at the same time.

Some users who only need to run one computer at a time do other things, such as run MC in a Docker on the NAS, and have the Library on the NAS. Not recommended, but possible. See HaWi's comments in this thread: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,126123.msg875458.html#msg875458

If you are using a NAS perhaps this is a solution for you:
