Title: Unwanted update(?) license/agreement pop-up when launching MC28 Mac
Post by: gd0 on February 23, 2022, 05:03:26 pm
Hey

System:
MC28 / 2013 iMac / macOS Sierra 10.12.6 (stuck there to run old Adobe SW)

Usage:
Strictly music. Partly from local storage, partly from internet radio. Everything is hardwired.

Installed MC28 three(?) months ago. It seems to work fine. But for the last month or so, when I launch it I occasionally get the pop-up attached below. Since I didn't request an "upgrade" or can even be sure this pop-up is legitimate, I have to click "disagree" and then click another JR pop-up to get 28 to run. Which it does. I've tried leaving MC28 on when shutting the Mac down for the night, but MC28 still behaves exactly the same: occasional pop-up.

Small inconvenience, but it shouldn't be there at all. Can I get rid of it? Or are there some sort of MC28 updates that I should actually know about? The MC28 window does indicate that "an update is ready to install" but I've never seen such an option when I've not deliberately arranged to do a version upgrade (which I've only done maybe twice in the several years I've used JRiver). I don't want to inadvertently install something I don't understand or want or need.

Can someone explain, please? Thanks in advance.

It's a legit update to one of the last build of Media Center 28, 28.0.104. What's happening is when you try to start Media Center 28 because there's an update it's launching the installer DMG file. What you need to do is update the app by clicking Agree and letting it mount the DMG file, and in the little window it opens you'll need to drag and drop the Media Center 28 app file into the Applications folder to update. Then you need to unmount the DMG file and start Media Center 28 from the Applications folder and it shouldn't prompt you anymore.

You can also workaround and 'fix' this by making sure Media Center 28 is closed and manually updating to 28.0.105 which is located here: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,131858.0.html

Thanks AD. Sorry for the slow reply, life interrupted.

I guess I never encountered this before. Maybe I disabled then re-enabled notifications over time. Didn't realize there were "mini" updates. I'm a set-it-and-forget-it kind of guy.

Now, knowing it's legit, I simply installed via the Action Window. It shows as MC29 in Applications, but after launching it, everything about it indicates 28.0.105.

Thanks again for the prompt reply.
