Title: MC22 for QNAP (TS-453b mini 8GB)
Post by: werdandi70 on January 30, 2018, 11:52:12 pm
Hello

First of all: I know that in the following, it will be noticable that this posting will not only deal with one single problem but i confess that there are several aspects, that are related - but with the intention not to flood the board with several postings, i'll try to give a short and crisp course

1. Last year i bought a MC22 license for windows - used it on my notebook, everything ok

2. This year i bought a QNAP TS-453b mini (8GB RAM) to run MC via HD Station with the intention to get rid off my notebook in this living room context

3. Now i installed MC21 (File: MediaCenter21_21.0.91_x86_64.qpkg - it was the first file i got managed to get) tried it out (especially my special situation, using an external USB high end digital converter) and, really surprisingly for me - it worked! Great, i thought.

4. Now, on the next day, after importing all my music, a "try out phase, or trial phase ... expired message appears, with the suggestion to download a newer version due to the current version woulfd now be outdated - else there was offered a trial extension - didn't work and a license restore (what also didn't work, surely cause i tried a windows MC22 for a (kind a) Linux MC21 license - and i think the problem was more windows->linux and not 22->21)

5. So i unistalled MC21 and now installed MC22 (File: MediaCenter22_22.0.111-5_x86_64) but after start via HD Station again, i encountered the problem, that none of the menu function links e.g. File, Tools etc... was working, on the contrary to the MC21 Version

6. So i again unstalled MC22 to again give MC21 a try, thinking to get the question of licensing managed with JRiver - but after Re-Install of MC21, surprise, now immediately the "Trial expired" message appeared and now i have nothing :-( where i got it managed to get it working..

So, currently i have (at least) tow (2) problems:
I. To get any version of MC (21,22, or if maybe upcoming 23) working on my QNAP
II. Get it licensed for a long-term usage

Can anyone (staff or experienced user) help me?

Hello Jim,

Yes, i studied it systematically to the end, but although it seems that there where some aspects that could meet, finally i found nothing that could help in my case.
So, please, i accept to be called the silliest asumable user, but please give me a step-by-step course how i can solve my problem

I'm sorry, but I'm unable.  QNAP support was brief and may not work in the future.  Especially if the hardware changes.

We don't recommend using a NAS drive.  It's just another computer.  The JRiver Id is a simpler solution in many cases.

hmm it makes me sad to hear that. this was one of the main arguments why i bought an additional qnap. but anyway... please, what du you mean with "the jriver id is a simpler solution in this case..."
does that mean that you see a possibility for at least getting it managed to run MC21?

An Id with an attached USB drive can serve files.  It includes MC.

ok, i examined this options, but finally, due to i already bought my new qnap, unfortunately this is currently no option for me. sorry
but
now i nevertheless bought a master license for MC23 but unfortunately the restore process did not work - maybe a NAS/linux/sandbox what ever problem - can you please help me in that context
in the thread, you suggested, i mentioned a section/post where someone told exactly about such a problem - and he got help to solve his problem

You should try the final build of MC22 QNAP which uses a MC23 linux/master license.
http://files.jriver.com/mediacenter/channels/v22/latest/MediaCenter22_22.0.114_x86_64.qpkg
or
one of the Docker container solutions which allow you to run MC23 (search for docker in the MC23 forum).

hello bob and thanks for your support(attempt) ;-)
to give a short response in the meantime:
desperately this "114" version also did not work as expected - after entering the serial the app aborts and next time trying, again the entering is requested.
i asume: due to also entering a wrong serial but following the correct string format (wrong format leads to an error and leads you back to entering page again) leads to abort - the 2nd step of the input validation has a bug

so, my question:

(alongside my efforts on trying a possible docker solution)

is there a possibility to maintain the serial via putty/commandline directly into the respective file, to avoid the browser operation on the surface?

If you have the .mjr license file (which is generated after you restore a license and sent to your email address), try restoring your license from the Terminal instead. Simply open the Terminal and type in...

Code: [Select]
mediacenter22 /RestoreFromFile FULLPATHTO.mjr
The easiest way to get the full path is to simply drag and drop the .mjr file into the Terminal. Just make sure there's a space after /RestoreFromFile (and before the path to the .mjr file) or else it'll not work. Otherwise they *should* get your MC22 licensed.

Hello Awesome Donkey, first of all, thank you for your support and i think we're approaching but a bit of linux something is still to fix:

on trying your command, the following occurrs:

error while loading shared libraries: libcryptlib.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

a " find . -name libcryptlib.so" shows -> ./share/CACHEDEV8_DATA/.qpkg/MediaCenter22/opt/MediaCenter22/usr/lib/jriver/Media Center 22/libcryptlib.so

so: it it possible that a path something is missing?

ok: after executing a "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH" for two further libraries: libXrandr.so.2 and libGL.so.1, the ..RestoreFromFile command led to a "Segmentation Fault" (a asume worst case :-( )

We no longer recommend installing MC on the QNAP devices.

For me there are two reasons in the meantime why I probably have to quit on JRiver althought I think it's the best SW actually.

The first is you pass on supporting Qnap
The second is you seem to give up on JRemote

I guess there's no way around in both cases, correct?

It was the other way around actually.
