First of all, JRiver Media Center does have a good ripping program. It does secure mode rips as well as other secure mode ripping programs. I've tested a variety of CDs ripped in secure mode using JRiver and EAC, and the rips had the same CRC values. Even for CDs that had some scratches. Plus the MC ripper can import the ripped files directly into your library. Which is convenient.

The advantages for using other ripping programs would be for speed and for better metadata.

Ripping programs that support AccurateRip can be configured to rip in burst mode and use AccurateRip to catch any ripping errors. Burst mode is more than twice as fast as secure mode. Which saves time and is a big benefit if you're sitting in front of hundreds of CDs that need to be ripped. CDs that have errors in burst mode can be set aside and ripped in secure mode later. dBpoweramp, EAC, and CueRipper all support AccurateRip verification.

Better metadata sources is also a big benefit. Being able to grab metadata from different sources like MusicBrainz, Discogs, and GD3 makes tagging much easier and much faster. Especially for classical music. dBpoweramp has the best tagging editing with the ability to pull metadata from multiple sources and let you mix and match fields from the different sources. dBpoweramp's PerfectMeta tagging dialog is really nice. And a big time saver. Especially for classical. EAC and CueRipper can also be configured to get metadata and do lookups from MusicBrainz and Discogs.

CUERipper is part of CUETools. It is free. Does AccurateRip verification (as well as CTDB verification). Can get metadata from freedb (gnudb), Discogs, and MusicBrainz. And I find it easier to use and easier to configure than EAC. CUETools doesn't have an installer. It is distributed as a zip file. You install it as you would a portable app. You run it by making your own shortcuts or by double-clicking on the exe file.

Read the Volume topic on the wiki.  And also the WDM topic may be useful.

Anything you do in MC settings should be safe.

Hello and thank you all for your hard work in making JRiver the best Mediaplayer.

I have during several years heavily modified my theater view and list views and are now wondering if I too have been modifying parts that were part of the stock MC.
I'm not  a coder per se and I have been modifying the templates with guidance from several more knowledge forum members than myself.

With that said, if you look at the attached picture.
Have I modified the stock MC? And if so, how do I do to create a template that are not stock and will not be changed when I upgrade to MC32.

Best regards,

That sounds reasonable (a divider and IPTC codes or something?)

However, have you considered just creating your own genre field?
After 15 years, I've ended up doing this for many of the stock fields. It keeps any pre-tagged mess out of my library, and I personally find this a much better solution :)

Adding another genre field would not work for me because other apps use the standard genre field which means I'd have to maintain genre in two fields.

I find them noisy and illogical and annoying but can live with them. How about tidying things up by sorting them alphabetically and moving them as a group AFTER the group of user used genres?

That is what we can do if we decide to keep them.

I sure hope so.  I was really surprised to see no response to this.  I started using JRiver for TV 3-6 years ago and it has always done this.  Maybe there aren't that many of us using JRiver for everything like I do, but it would be really great to put an adjustable control somewhere for TV volume, or maybe level the volume levels somewhere in the program.  I would be happy with either solution.  I'm just glad I'm not the only one :)

I have a large main library, and several smaller libraries that are populated from physical file folders separate from the main library folder.  Is there a way to identify albums in the main library, and then have them seen and accessed by the other libraries?  Currently, I am copying the files from the main library disc location and pasting into the second library's disc location and then running import.  I would prefer to not have multiple copies of the same data in different file structures to support different libraries.

Thanks in advance,

One simple change is that we could make right-align of numeric fields an advanced option.
ooooh... yes please :) (though consider leaving things as-is and making the advanced option to be left-aligned?)
We could expand to allow setting alignment on a field-by-field basis, but that seems a little too dense to me.
Agreed.

Right-aligned numbers is the norm, Marko just needs a new brain  ;D
Agree re: "The norm", strongly agree re: "new brain" :D
An advanced setting (left|center|right) is great, but I would leave the default as is.
A per-Field setting in the "Edit Field" UI would also work. As long as the default doesn't suddenly change, then I think both options are fine and don't add much clutter.
A global setting would be preferred, especially if it's a simple thing, also, the current defaults shouldn't change.

@Matt, thanks for looking.
