Title: Why is Import from Explorer so slow?

Not so long ago, right click -> Media Center -> Import from Windows Explorer was really quick, but now imports often take an unpredictably long time before the files are available for work, and when doing a bunch of imports it's a source of frustration as it really impacts my import workflow...

Devs, I wonder what changed to cause this "bottleneck" and whether something can be done to improve the situation?
