Title: What's the difference between ARTIST and ALBUM ARTIST?
Post by: Desertpilot on December 01, 2019, 07:52:35 am
I listen to mostly classical music.  I have worked over tags mostly to my personal preference catalog scheme (populating Composer, Conductor, Orchestra, Etc.).  I can't figure out if there is any reason to differentiate ARTIST and ALBUM ARTIST.  Many imported tags simply put the same information in to both fields or leave the ALBUM ARTIST field blank.

Is there a good reason to populate the ALBUM ARTIST field?  If yes, what information would be useful and different from ARTIST field?

Thank you
Marcus

Album Artist is useful for compilation albums where you have one overarching featured artist but tracks featuring individual artists. It can also be useful for soundtracks, concertos (with featured soloists), and other album types.

This thread, although almost 14 years old, and with some images no longer available, still applies today and should hopefully be a lot of help...
