Hello,
reposting in this thread as possibe bug.
on JRiver Media Center 32.0.44 for Mac Silicon, CD Playing fails randomly.
It is installed on MacBook Air M3 with SuperDrive using Apple USB adapter. Sonoma 14.5.
The software starts playing CD but randomly ejects CD between tracks or stops, generating static noise.
I've suspected a bad interaction with Music App and so I've removed permissions to Music App for accessing removable media, but nothing changed.
After some time, even if is still playing a CD track, it doesn't see the CD anymore, so when it finishes to play, it doesn't see any more tracks annd fails.

It should have affected MC on all platforms. At any rate it will be fixed in the next build. Thanks for your persistence.

Just wanted to chime in here and say that when I did a pair of v32 upgrades about 3 weeks ago (one with a local v30 library and another connecting to our media server) - in both cases - the "new" v32 install - did not find anything whatsoever.

I understand there continues to be challenges with a "media server" client - but my local library (v30) instance also did not do anything special.

It fired up normally - but fired up to a normal empty library - posting up that usual "Do you want me to scan your entire machine for stuff" dialog etc.

I had to "introduce" v32 to my v30 backup library just like I always have to do.

Now - this process is/was fast and easy as always - but I simply wanted to mention that I did not notice anything cool or out of the ordinary at first install to make this a more "faster and thorough upgrade" as this post seems to indicate.

There is an option for resetting all of the window positioning entries in Options->Tree and View
Try that.

That fixed an odd problem I've had with MC32 for a couple of months.  The options screen was always opening full screen.  Now it doesn't.  Thanks, Bob.

Bob - Since I updated the Mac Mini from Sonoma 14.5 (beta) to the official release of 14.5 I'll cover that first.
Installing 14.5 has a couple of "scary" bits in it; ever since I've had the mac mini every update install has had 2 occasions where the small Apple Icon and Progress Bar has been replaced by larger versions. For some reason known only to Apple for 14.5 they have replaced those 2 larger image screens with very "scary" blank screens.
From the limited amount of testing I was able to do it thankfully Apple have not added any of those (usually) undocumented changes that end up breaking something in MC.


I'm not sure if it is something to do with this change; 17. Fixed: Maximizing some windows like Options could be a problem in the last builds on some displays.
But Maximising either the Tools >> Options or DSP Windows causes problems:-
The header bar goes missing so the only way to close the maximised window is by hitting the cancel, ok or done buttons.
If the user then reopens the window they maximised thankfully it opens with an intact header bar and the only way to get it to go back to it's original size is to do it manually by very carefully find the resize arrows and drag them.

As far as I can tell this is not new behavior. I see maximizing the Options box in MC31 does the same.
I don't think that any of the popup boxes should maximize to full screen mode. Agreed?

I am impresssed by all the responses, hints and ideas. Printscreens of MC on MAC. I can barely see border lines of the Options popup windows. Oh, help.
Did I start this? Will I be able to finish the new Skin?

Just to give an update about the progress on the Skin Easy Grey: there is a lot to do.

I am still cleaning up images.
Example: 'click area' is a well known concept with website-building. Many buttons from Modern Cards have this click area. But do we really need this? It seems NOT. With or without it I notice no difference when using MC. Cleaning up is not a priority but I am working on the images so...
Example: image sizes. I am removing all the 1x and 1.5x sizes. I have to make sure I don't need them and the new default size (2x) is the best. Volume-bar and Progress-bar are typical: the background disappeared with skin-size 50 or 60%. And while I am at it, let's improve the Volume-bar (yes a very nice improvement!).
Example: The colors of different button-stages. Yes you can expect less 'minimalism' and better use of colors. No you won't see it at first glance. It's puzzling, I had to set up some guidelines like (default for the Player-bar): Volume: Mute off, Play: no shuffle, no repeat, DSP On=default (DSP Direct=special).
And so on...

Little issue: WaveForm Bar colors. I don't have the WaveForm bar only those 2 little spectrum-analyzers in the top-bar (and they don't respond to the WaveFormBar colors . Analyzing audio, not done. Don't want the data in my sidecar.xml. Will analyze some music, so I can setup nice colors. OK, just had MC analyze some music. YES, now I see the 'Wave'. Play with colors, okay.
Little issue: Fonts? Important, yes! 'Segoe' not on Mac? Makes me think of website-building: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif or: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif. Those were/are the most OS and browser-compatible options. I can NOT change the default Windows 10 font (without registry editing). So, for the 'looks' of MC there is little choice. But it does influence contrast and balance of text on the Skin.
Little issue: in version 1.4 there was a border with rounded corners but it looked bad at 50-70% Skin-size. It should be possibble. 'Blue Steel' Skin has it. It does not work on Easy Grey. The border lines just do NOT meet at the corners. After (again) several hours I found a solution. Rounded corners are back.
Little issue: Overlay transparency-issue on the MAC. I did not know about this issue but I do know that transparency is something to avoid. If a see layer-transparency in an image in Photoshop I will remove it. There is another transparency issue probably on both Mac and Windows computers: overlay transparency will not work in video-playback with something like the 'Mini Player'. I tried to give it rounded corners but they showed up black when playing a video and going to the topborder to activate the playerbar. GIF-transparency always had better support among the OS's. But we want more colors, so we need PNG...

I won't bore you with more details. Maybe at the end of this week, maybe next week, there will be an update of Easy Green.

Many thanks for your fast replies. Long file names are switched on in MC and Windows - made a reboot and checked it again - same situation - broken links are showing these files - this is the expression - [Custom]=[/[/=ismissing/(/[filename/]/)/]/=1]. It is not an important situation.

Another question and help please: I would need an expression "counting albums per artist".

Could you put some small definition around each?

Could you also indicate which are necessary for, e.g.

- Playback of media (and which types of media)
- Library management (and what specifically)
- Links to relevant APIs in MCWS that interact with the particular service/function or perhaps bypass it altogether enabling the developer to manage what the service does outside of the service

I am sure I could think of other things, but those at least are of interest to me.
