I get a similar problem (missing MP3 conversion) in version 21. It says file conversion is complete, yet I get error for all the file. I've wasted a lot of time trying to figure this out.

The MP3 encoder is downloaded when you first try to use it.  A firewall or other security software might block it.

Try converting any file to MP3.  That should start the process.

Thanks Jim for your quick reply. This is a fresh install on a new iMac. The conversion 'failed' every time. I am a new user of this program as well.

Are you running Windows?  You're posting on a Windows board.

You may have a firewall blocking access.

I'd suggest starting a new thread on this problem GoodShark.  Please include the Mac OS X version you are using, the version of MC you are using (Help > About), and what kinds of files you are trying to convert to MP3.  I.E. are they FLAC, or ALAC, or WAV, or ... ?
