Title: Ipod Video Conversion
Post by: brainsoup on August 22, 2007, 03:34:38 am
Hi there...

Just built a new PC yesterday and managed to migrate MC over to Vista with ease, most of my library remained in tact so thats all good :)

When I was setting up the config for my Ipod, I noticed a setting that allowed me to convert video's to "Ipod Native" or "Ipod TV"... I've never seen these mentioned before. I tried them out to see if they worked but alas they do not, they convert (or seem to) the video in MC and upload it perfectly but it then doesn't play on the Ipod.

Am I using a feature that isn't quite finished yet or do others actually have this working?

Cheers

Chris :)

Should work.  Maybe the firmware on the iPod is old?

It's the latest firmware... I think it's something to do with the codecs installed on my machine as some of my mp4 and m4v video's don't play.

Any suggestions? By the way... hats off to you guys for implementing this - superb feature that will probably save me tons of time and headaches! :D

When you say they don't play, are you playing them just on the iPod?  Or from MC when connected to the iPod?

For support of those formats, try the DirectShow guide (by glynor) in the Wiki here.  Read about CCCP.

OK... getting there. I can now convert all videos apart from .mov files. I have installed QT Alternative but this makes no difference. Problem is that .mov files also play very jerkily on my PC which is an Athlon 64 x2 4400, 2GB ram and a 256Mb graphics card so there should be no problems. My PC doesn't even seem to break a sweat....

Thanks for the help so far

Chris :)

I don't think MOV conversion will work at this time.

Thats cool... I may just convert the MOV files to AVI or something externally then. Absolutely amazing feature guys! Well done :D

Whats the difference between the two different conversion options?

Cheers

Have also found out that the .mov playing jerkily is because I have them stored on a SATA drive and have a NVIDA graphics card. Have moved them to my IDE drive and everything is fine... wierd eh!

Grr... Just as I thought everything was going well something comes along!

Managed to convert the .mov videos to .avi using rad video tools. However now some vids are sticking at 99% when converting to ipod format forcing me to cancel the sync :(
