Title: Strange certificate when open amazon page
Post by: masterhunter on February 29, 2012, 09:29:15 am
Hi i have a problem
Since sunday when open mj and the amazon web page  this happens:

I can't say no and can't close with the x i can only press view certificate and view the info of the certificate:

I googled and this certificate might be fraudolent and its not necessary to amazon site (opened with firefox)...furthermore the  AmazonMP3.com is currently only available to US customers (so here in italy dont work..)

If you dont understand italian i can post screenshot with mj started in eng....but i dont think its necessary!

Please reply soon! I love your program and i dont want to change.... ;-)

The warning is indicating that no revocation information is available.

Have you run Windows update and updated the root certificates?

If you go to options/tree & view and change Web Browser Engine to the alternate does it make a difference.
Which are you using in MC Internet Explorer or Chromium?

I just noticed that you are using Media Jukebox not Media Center which explains why you don't have a browser option.
Sorry for the confusion.
Would you object to installing a trial of Media Center 17 to see if the problem goes away.

No because mj is perfect for me and my needs  ;) ....a solution please??? I think the problem is just the security popup.....the amazon site is correctly visualized (behind the popup) and the certificate is installed in my system!!

no,  tried before the install of the certificate and after on ie and firefox with no problem.

It's a MJ problem/bug...if someone here can let know this problem to the the DEVELOPERS!!! Please!!

MJ uses always the Internet Explorer engine for displaying web content. Technically only the user interface differs from the standard IE browser. MC has also the option to use the Chromium engine and it downloads the needed components when this option is selected.

I just installed MJ14 to a new 64-bit Windows 7 laptop and I don't have this problem. The Amazon page displays without any warnings on startup and also when it is accessed by selecting Amazon in "tree > Services & Plug-ins".

Are you sure that you have installed all Windows 7 updates? It might be useful to run Windows Update manually and check the available updates.

Here is my version info from Help > System Info...

Code: [Select]
Media Jukebox 14.0.166 C:\Program Files (x86)\MJ14\

 Workstation 6.1 Service Pack 1 (Build 7601)
AMD Unknown 1646 MHz MMX / Memory: Total - 3780 MB, Free - 2305 MB

Internet Explorer: 9.0.8112.16421 / ComCtl32.dll: 5.82.7601 / Shlwapi.dll: 6.1.7601 / Shell32.dll: 6.1.7601 / wnaspi32.dll: N/A ...

2 question:

1) The certificate is installed in my system under the other certificate section....also to you?? (To see it i search certmgr.msc in the search box of explorer)

2) If i uninstall/reinstall mj??? For a complete clean i must delete hidden folders?? where??

I don't have that certificate in the Certificate Manager tool and MJ14 & MC17 do no show any warnings when I browse the Amazon site. I am afraid that I don't know enough about the certification system to help you, but I would suspect a problem in the installed certificates instead of a problem in MJ14.

However, if you really want to perform a clean install you can check the "remove registry entries" and "remove library files" options in the MJ14 uninstaller. You may want to make a new library backup file and copy it to a safe place before proceeding.

I think you have a rogue certificate on your system.  The Akamai / GTE CyberTrust Global Root certificate should not be under Other People.

While you can delete it, there's no telling how your system acquired this certificate.

(Akamai is a content caching service used by major online vendors/content providers.)

This certificate is the certificate requested by the annoying popup!! I installed it!!

If you google for "a248.e.akamai.net certificate issue" quite a lot of results come back - not related to MJ.
Definitely seems to be something out there causing these issues.
