Anyone know anything about this format? AMR that is.
I have a Sony Ericsson that records to AMR format (one of those things you don't find out till you buy the thing - salesman said it was mp3 ::) ).
Is there anyway to play this in MediaPlayer directly. I saw a 3rd-party converter while Googling, but a plug-in would be ideal.
Thanks :)

AMR is a standards based CODEC has has a couple of varients. i.e. Narrowband and wide band for a start.
This CODEC generally requires a royalty AFAIK. Newer GSM phones support this in addition to GSM and GSM-FR CODEC's.
I guess you are looking to be able to encode your music into this format?

Thanks horse.
I'm not looking to use ARM for music - rather I'd like to be able to transfer voice memos to the PC and play them in MediaCenter.
I've got around it by downloading this converter (http://www.gromkov.com/faq/faq2004-0087.html) but a plug-in would be much faster.
I don't suppose there's enough demand out there though.

Just ran into this problem as well. On my droid the voice recording app i payed for saves voice memos in .amr. i drug it to jriver and i got error unsupported file type.
Then i drug it to quicktime and it played fine.
Any new news on this?
Thanks
