Title: Faint 'Tic' Sound When Theater View Background Image Changes
Post by: nwboater on December 10, 2011, 11:10:47 am
Just before Theater View gets a new image from the Internet I hear a faint tick when playing music. This has been a long standing problem - thought it was time to deal with it.

Need to change Audio buffer or something else? I'm always a little hesitant to make these changes because in the past it has sometimes had detrimental affects on Video.

We have an Asus Essence ST internal DAC. It's anlog outs go straight to the power amps.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rod

Do you hear that "tic" sound when browsing with Internet Explorer? Maybe it's picking up the default sound when browsing to pages? Go to Sounds in Control Panel and set them all to off as a test and then open Theater View again.

it sounds like you might be hearing the system sound for "start navigation" which is the first thing I eliminate when I install windows.  it's a little 'click' whenever you do almost anythingn in windows.  it's under control panel/sounds/system sounds, very near the bottom.  To test, go here, and click the play/arrow next to the sound and see if that's the sound you're hearing, and change to "none" if so.

I tried to attach a photo, but it says the upload folder is full, :(

MGD_King & JustinChase,

Don't hear any sounds when browsing in IE or Firefox.

Checked Control Panel and I had all sounds off. Sound Theme is None.

Thanks very much for trying to help.  This is especially bothersome when listening to quiet passages in Classical music.

What happens if you turn the monitor off?  We have seen some problems in the past, where video hardware caused a sound problem.  I've forgotten the details, but try the "Weird Problems" thread in my signature.

Network hardware is also a possibility.

Updated drivers may help.

For an update on this problem I haven't been successful in eliminating it. So I have just stopped using changing background images in Theater View. In a way it's better when listening to music to not have the distraction of the screen changing.

There is a thread here  http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=62062.msg466109#new (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=62062.msg466109#new) wherein other people are having a lot of pops, etc with their Asus Essence soundcards (same as mine). Not sure this is related, but it may be so I'm going to reference this thread there.
