Title: Recycle Bin Problem
Post by: F Ribeiro on June 28, 2019, 03:59:39 am
Hello

I still have the problem I reported yesterday.
If I run Auto Import, Media Center starts copying the files to the server recycle bin (the music files are on a server).
This is a serious problem that puts the server out of space.
I put this problem yesterday but the message has been deleted because I can not find it.
Please consider this situation and help in its resolution.

The problem only occurs if the "analyze for HDCD" option is selected.

Thank you very much.

The files in the recycle bin have the same name as the originals with a (1).
If the original is "Tom Waits - Jersey Girl.flac" the file in the recycle bin is "Tom Waits - Jersey Girl (1).flac".

Why is your recycle bin on a server?

Are your files read only?

You can probably trouble-shoot this by tagging one file at a time and seeing whether a duplicate shows up in your recycle bin.

My files are on a server.
Is the recycle bin of the server.

Please try manually tagging a file.  Does that cause it to go to the recycle bin?  I'm wondering if tagging is causing something to happen on your system.

Thanks.

No problems manualyy tagging several flac files.
Try to run auto import with "analyzing for HDCD" and the problems went back with some files (maybe flacs with HDCD).
I'm going to do a clean reinstall of media center.
After that, if the problem remains I will disable everything about HDCD.
Without HDCD enabled, everything works OK.

Did a clean reinstall of windows 10 on a dell laptop.
Did a clean reinstall of media center.
Set my audio files folder to //Server/music/ (synology NAS)
Set analyze audio files for HDCD

Media Center start importing and, at the same time, a lote of files with the same name as the original + (1) began to apear in Synology recycle folder.
At some point, Synology starts sending messages with Disk full alerts.
Disabling HDCD analyze, everything works normal.
I really believe it is a media center problem with HDCD.
Until recent changes regarding HDCD, media center use to work without faults.

I'm also having trouble with my Synology NAS Recycle bin

Hello,

I have the same problem described here and still found no solution.

Is there someone here to help, please?

Thanks.

I'm not sure what is going on here.  The HDCD setting simply flags a file to analyze if HDCD isn't set.

So no idea why that would trigger the recycle bin?

Does analyzing audio manually (turn the auto setting off) cause any problems?

1) Is CloudSync enabled on this NAS volume? It's possible the Synology is creating a copy when MC is opening/modifying the file while the NAS is uploading it, and then deletes the copy.

2) The NAS recycle bin automatically catches any file deleted over the network - is there any scenario where MC creates a copy then deletes it? Perhaps when adding the Clipart/Cover tag, where it needs to create a larger file?

2 seems more likely. Anytime a larger tag needs to be written to the top of a file, it would need to create a copy and delete/overwrite the original. An overwrite should not trigger the recycle bin, but a Delete will.

Hi,

I think I identified the problem. Finally, it has nothing to do with analyzing files but with the lyrics.

When lyrics are added to a file, it creates a copy. At the end of the song, the original file is put into the recycle bin, with a (1) suffix. And the new file replaces the old one.

Is there a way to avoid the behavior, please?

EDIT : problem still persisting on last MC28 version.

Is something on the way to fix the problem or will it be remaining forever? Just a word about it would be welcome. Thanks.

This is not really an MC problem, it's just how network recycle bin works on a NAS - it's a feature! You can adjust the recycle bin retention time to minimize the issue.

A suggestion for MC team: most NAS can be configured to ignore certain extensions so that the files are not recycled. Most of them already ignore .tmp files. So, perhaps MC could rename a file to .tmp before deleting it?

Good idea, Zybex. It would be very useful.

Hello Matt,

What do yo think about this idea? Any hope to see that in a future version?

Thanks,

creal.
