Title: Upgrade vs Install
Post by: ansky on June 10, 2017, 07:59:55 am
OK... I'm confused.   I am on MC 16 and purchased the master license for 22 and then downloaded the software.

I don't want to do a NEW install, which starts with an empty shell and wants to find and import all my media.  I want all the configuration I've done on MC 16 to come over.

What am I missing?

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

You first have to back up the library. Then uninstall and restart the system. Now install the new version and retrieve the library from where you saved it.

You probably can't transfer settings from a version that is more than 2 or 3 years old.  You could leave MC16 installed and run both so you can compare settings.

You should be able to restore an MC16 backup in MC22.

You don't need to uninstall MC16 until you've got MC22 running the way you want.

A few specifics:

On MC 16:  File > Library > Backup library .  Make note of the file name.
One MC 22:  File > Library > Restore Library .  Choose the backup file you just made in MC 16.

That should transfer all of your media meta data (album names, artists, play counts, last played date, etc.) into the library on MC22.

Good luck.

Brian.
