Title: Trial Extension on Mac doesn't work
Post by: AGAWA on March 16, 2021, 08:46:55 am
Please Help with trial extension

I have just installed JRiver MC on Mac OS.
For unknown reason I've lost File Type entry in Options.

My goal is to play SACD.ISO to 4 channel setup. And File Type is necessary step in setup procedure.

Decided to completely remove and reinstall MC.

I got message : trial period expired, but you can extend trial by 45 days.

I've requested the code, received by email, entered in the right place, accepted.
And nothing happens. MC will not open and no option to extend the trial.

I was in the first hour only of configuring MC.

Please help - unlocking or resetting the counter.

Initial configuration on Windows was successful, so I decided to move to Mac  that will be my platform  for MC with Apogee Duet in 4 channels.

I have tried it many times, looks promising, does nothing. JRiver should have along  the machine ID time stamp of first installation. I did the first install today.

and this is what we get in email:

Thanks for deciding to take another look at JRiver Media Center. Just
start up MC and choose "Extend Trial", then enter this code:

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It will only work for 45 days after the initial installation. After that time, you can try JRiver on another computer if you have one.

Regards,

JRiver

interesting enough, I did uninstall completely under Windows and there was no problem with trial continuation in new install.
Why is it possible under Windows and not possible in Mac OS?
I did follow this experience on Mac with problems I'm reporting

If you uninstall on a Mac it disables the ability to extend the trial.
The difference is that windows has a registry and the Mac (and linux for that matter) don't so can't support extend if you uninstall.

can i get any help with Mac? Or only way to get 30 trial is to purchase a product?
Ver 24  installed as trial, I did manage to play directly from .ISO 5.1 downmixed to 4.0.
Center somewhat washed out by JRiver mixer, strange . For unknown reason volume level ( top left corner yellow slider) keeps changing, trying to set it at 100% causes MC stop responding and crash.
It does so at random  levels.
It never happened with Audirvana with Apogee Duet that I'm using.

and last remark/wish

Trial period serves testing everything; that should allow for multiple installs and removals of software. It takes expert to do everything correctly in just one go.
Pls reconsider, how to enable such approach.

all the best

Unfortunately once the trial (including the trial extension) has expired, there's no way to get another one unless you either run it on another computer or wait until the next major Media Center version which will include a new, separate trial period.

It's done this way by JRiver, I presume, to prevent certain types of users from resetting the trial period which would be in essence pirating the application since you could endlessly reset the trial period. I personally have my doubts they'll change how this works, since doing so could allow that sort of thing to happen. So yeah, there's probably nothing that can be done about it (since uninstalling the app broke the trial extension and caused all trials to expire after reinstalling) and you might be stuck running the trial on another computer if you have one.
