I ran a general update, after which MC21 won't open.
No problems until now beyond some known quirks.

Since you're using Ubuntu 14.04 you'll need to use this fix unless you've already done so. Open a Terminal and running the following commands;
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Then try running Media Center again.

That did it.
Thanks!!

Will this solve the problem with QNAP too? There too JRiver doesn't start anymore :-(

No, that's a different issue.

Any idea when a fix will be available?

Bob is working with QNAP regarding that issue. There's no ETA.
