I’m after advice about stereo up-mixing when using convolution for x/o in active speakers that I’ve not been able to get resolved via looking at other threads. System involves a 4.2 set-up; i.e., FL, FR, SL, SR and 2 x Subs. The FL and FR speakers are active with the crossover managed via convolution within JRiver. All this means that I need 8 channels so I’ve set the output format to 7.1 but in doing so I believe that the stereo up-mixing is to 7.1 not 5.1. How do I sort out getting the correct SL / SR for a 5.2 set-up? Is it just a case of dropping RL / RR or adding SL + RL etc. or is there some form of mixing of SL / SR / RL / RR that needs to be applied?

Any advice from the experts? Is it as simple as SL = SL + RL?
