Title: MC 29 Portable - trial period has expired and license will not restore
Post by: GoodEnoughGear on October 17, 2022, 11:48:38 am
Hi folks

JRMC29 with a Windows license code on Win 11 21H2 installed on default location, and portable on D drive.

The portable install has now for the second time presented me with the "Trial period has expired" dialogue. Upon restoring using the license key it prompts to elevate privilege and announces the license was successfully installed. I click OK and it immediately throws up the same dialogue that the license was successfully installed. Click OK, and the trial period dialogue box remains, and no license is activated. It takes a clean reinstall and a restore of the database (and fixing a bunch of stuff that the restore does not put back) to get it to work.

This seems it may be related to an upgrade - new version, same problem.

How do I get this portable install to register the license correctly?

I have the same problem... I used a lot of licences just because I tried to register.

Can someone help?

I just installed a portable MC30.  Then I installed my MC30 Windows license and it runs registered.

So I'm not able to reproduce any issues.

Please provide more details.  A step-by-step to reproduce would be great.  Thanks.

I was able to reproduce this thanks to ripp's help.

We'll try to correct it in the next build of MC30.

MC29 won't get updated.  You can install from a licensed computer to get the license copied in MC29.

Thank you for quick response.

I installed normally to same OS MC 29 and registered it. Portable version still dont work. Where can I find licence file to copy it? Probably somewhere to portable folder of MC? My idea is to use same portable version on multiple OS-es, even computers (because I use sync for software and also for media files). I get it that MC instance should be "approved" for each instance of OS, but if I copy licence file to portable folder, how can I use it on multiple OS instances without reregistering it?

You don't register the portable install.  You have to have a licensed copy of MC on your PC, then do the portable install.  Please see the wiki.

Thank you, this workaround works.
