Title: Purchase MC for Linux at $39.98
Post by: JimH on September 19, 2013, 11:07:50 am
JRiver Media Center 20 is available for $39.98.  Here is the current status.

1.  The license for the Linux version is separate from the Windows and Mac versions.

2.  The final price will be the same as the Windows version.

3.  It works well but still has a few rough edges.

4.  It is audio only at this time.  We're working on video, but we don't know when it will be available.

[Video was added in January, 2015]

5.  To purchase, please download, install, and purchase from the Help menu.

[A Master License (http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Master_License) is also available now.]

Thanks.

So, just to confirm, I'm currently using the windows version in VirtualBox on my Linux server to host my library, if I want to switch to Linux native, I need to buy another full license?

Yes. At this time. There is a thread in another forum regarding multi-platform licences, but these are not in place.

How long will the licence last? Will it extend to later versions with video playback?

I'd love to get my HTPC off Windows (I only use it for MC), but with audio only, that's not really an option for me - unless the licence is carried on.

How about Theater View? That's also a must-have for me.

The license is good for one Major Version and all the builds.  19.0.45, 19.0.46, etc.  but not 20.0.1 or greater.  You could read about "Updates" on our wiki.

First post from a new user. I tried MediaCenter on my Ubuntu 13.10 box, and it amazed me with the improved sound from my 'serious' digital system (M2Tech USB to SPDIF converter/Benchmark DAC/good amps and big Martin Logan speakers). I was using the Aqualung player and Jack before, thinking that was bit-perfect, but evidently I was wrong!  I've been so impressed that I've  bought a licence under your early bird scheme. I hope that JRiver achieves a commercial advantage from supporting Linux, and I'd be happy to help with testing/debugging.

The user interface on Ubuntu 13.10 is not all working yet, and I cannot get the program to find the registration code either at start-up or at run-time - quite a few of the menu selections do not actually appear. Please reply if this is news to the developer(s).

Welcome.

The current version has a 30 day timeout.  You'll need to download and install again.  It doesn't currently use the license.

If I purchase a license now, can I hold onto it without activating it for the three months or until it can be activated without issue?

Yes, and thank you for your support.

Awesome, one more question. If I activated on Linux then later on changed/upgraded hardware (CPU/Motherboard/SSD/Etc.) and/or clean installed a Linux distro, would I have issues reactivating then? :)

EDIT: Read about restoring, so I went ahead and purchased a copy. Can't wait for the great things on Linux! :D

These early builds will all have timeouts.  Just download and install the newest build when it happens.  This may continue for a few months.

I suppose that to upgrade to the next version will be cheaper than buying a new one.
In the wiki doesn't tell anything about upgrade prices.

The license is good for one Major Version and all the builds.  19.0.45, 19.0.46, etc.  but not 20.0.1 or greater.  You could read about "Updates" on our wiki.

Upgrades are about half the price of a new license, sometimes less.

Hi, how many devices I could use with the license? I want to try at my PC and Notebook, is this possible with just one license?

You can use one license on all your machines (within reason), on the same OS.  Windows and Linux are different, for example.

Do I need to uninstall as well after time-out or just re-install?

Uninstall shouldn't be necessary.

I bought a new license today

i had the trail versie ..94 and can not open the license key or dont know how to install the key.
I activated the key .mjr. with a double click

but in Help the registration information doesnt show any changes.

i can not uninstall the program because it is not possible in software center I only can install the program.

any suggestions how to install the license key?
Do I have to copy the key.mrj in to an other directory? and then activated it.?

thanks

Thanks for answering

i have it allready installed, the latest version 19.04.94. But I can not uninstall it.
It doesnt overwrite the latest version, it gives an error in the software center.

I don't think the license key will work yet, but the timeout is sometime in January.

Hello

I bought mediacenter and dont know how to use the licencekey?

I removed this version before I installed the last one.
the older versio .94 timed out and i Installed the newer version .103
After I installed the new version nothing happend the mediacenter still has all the setting of the older version and I can use it. the licence button in the Help menu doesnt work.

How can I use the licencekey?

the versio is very stable in ubuntu 13.10. I just doesnt recognises all the sacd-iso (which foobar does)

thanks

marco

Given the low quality of media players in Linux, I've decided to purchase, even though I do prefer open source.

I just now bought a Linux license just to show my support, as I'm in a process of gradually switching completely to Linux (Ubuntu is my current choice for the sake of ease of use). I hope that Theater View and video support is coming to Linux in the near future (lower quality codecs would be much better than no video support).

Also I suggest considering distributing the software through Steam and Ubuntu Software Center, just to make things easier for the Linux users and for the sake of marketing, a good application for Linux/Mac on Steam would surely get a lot of attention.

It might be a year or so before we see any kind of video support, to be honest.

Yea I'm aware that the wait for video support may get long, but I wanted already to show my support for the Linux version by buying a license :). I'm determined on Windows 7 being the last version of a closed source OS I will ever use, so I'm in this for the long run. Until I can switch to Linux completely I will be dual booting/running VMWare.

I did, and trying to buy from the program still gives me "Failed to initiate purchase" as with previous versions.

I would like a clarification about license. I want to use the same license on two different computers at home, if possible.
The first computer where I have installed the license is working right and is registered correctly to me.

Using the same code I have registered jriver on a second computer (I have filled the code under help/install license) . At first all seems right and is registered to me.
After some days the second installation is switching back to UNREGISTERED - 30 days left in the trial period. Moreover, the days will remain always 30...

I have already used 5 restores.

The current build shouldn't have trouble with this unless you do something like re-arrange cards in the pci slots.
We can reset the restores if you continue having trouble.

I lost the reg-key!  :'( :'( :'(
I usually save the reg key in my password safe, but this time only the text, but not the key exists. I only have the mjr file that is no longer valid. At the moment MC is still registered. Can you send me a new key?

I upgraded my Windows license to 20, however, when I try to purchase MC20 for Linux I receive an error.  I know there are no MC20 builds out there, so perhaps that is the issue.

Will there be a separate Linux upgrade email/promotion in the future?
