Currently, I'm running MC on... Quote PRETTY_NAME="LMDE 6 (faye)" I use this install on my laptop mostly for queries to the MC database residing on the MC server (a Windows desktop). I am using this install of MC on Linux to get a feel of how it works because I may be replacing the Windows PC in my entertainment center with a Linux PC due to the ridiculously onerous Windows 11 hardware requirements. One question I do have... I've no qualms abut running plain ole Debian on that entertainment center PC. But Debian supports many window managers. Is one preferred over the other? My requirements are that that PC runs MC well. No other needs for that PC. Is there a recommended or preferred windows manager under Debian? |

Windows / JRiver Media Center 32 for Windows / Why does 4K video playback stutter in MC32 but not in VLC?

I decided to test the video capability of a new Dell XPS 15 laptop by playing a rip of one of my Planet Earth II UHD Blu-rays. This laptop has an OLED screen, an RTX 4060 GPU, and HDR is enabled in Windows 11.
This 4K video plays smoothly on VLC, using its default settings, but I'm struggling to find the optimum configuration in MC32. I lack a detailed understanding of JRVR and therefore simply selected the 'Balanced' preset (which seems appropriate for a laptop version of the RTX 4060). This gives an excellent picture, with possibly better HDR results than VLC, but there are fairly frequent brief stutters in the playback. Can anyone recommend any tweaks to the JRVR Balanced preset that might fix this problem? |

Well, whaddya know? Marko, you da man! I have been doing all the replacement ripping manually. I was deleting the old files and folders manually then rip the CD the JRiver way. I had no idea this was built-in!
Fantastic, Marko! Appreciate your input immensely! |

Windows / JRiver Media Center 32 for Windows / MC Feature Request - Playback cycle changes and fixes

This has taken me months to document due to the number of devices participating in my Media Center network, my limited knowledge of how MC works and my own coding errors. However at long last I think i have fixed many of my own issues and found a few that I would like to ask the JRiver team to address. This feature request post it has to do with the Media Center playback cycle.
1) can we have a Before Playback Expression? 2) During playback expressions in Playing Now execute multiple times. To prevent IsPlaying() from spilling over to other library records in the queue I've had to "lock" IsPlaying to the current library record by adding a library field also called IsPlaying. So when IsPlaying() is true and the library record also indicates that it is playing there is no spillover. If( And( [IsPlaying] = 1, IsPlaying() )... 3) when I enable Theater View the Playing Now expressions stop working. I can only assume the After Playback expressions also stop working. Can this be fixed? 4) Stop After or end of queue occurs before the After Playback expression executes, therefore I can no longer use If( And( [IsPlaying] = 1, IsPlaying() )... instead I have to create a Global variable and save to it the FileKey() then compare the Global variable value to the library records FileKey() to ensure that I am modifying the same library record. If( [GVFileKey] = FileKey() ),... Can the Stop After or end of queue occur after the After Playback expression? |

Video clock? Don't have that enabled on any machines, but worth a shot. I tried with Video clock turned on, still the same problem. |

I can't reproduce this behavior. Using RO Standard => slow motion is smooth. Using JRVR (even at lowest settings) > slow motion is NOT smooth. CTRL-J shows no dropped/repeated frames for normal speed playback. As soon as slow motion is invoked the repeated frames quickly climbs and climbs. Confirmed on three different machines. |

We've talked about this before, yes - you sometimes do not see the replies.
On this thread, it seems to me that Bob tested renaming a *View* node using your database, but you are complaining about Playlist Groups. Maybe bob can take another look. |
