Cloudplay is JRiver's lossless streaming service.
The wiki also has a Cloudplay topic (https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Cloudplay)
Imagine a limitless giga-library of lossless audio files that you can play anywhere. That's where JRiver Cloudplay is going.
Upload your own files as playlists
They are uploaded to our server at Amazon S3 whose reliability is excellent. Playlists should be mixed content, not single albums or single artists.
Play these playlists anywhere
Play Doctor can also combine these files with your local files. Other users can do the same.
Cloudplay Meets Play Doctor (https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,120871.0.html)
Radio JRiver uses these new files
Radio programming is built from the files.
Playback will work from a browser
Coming soon.
High Quality and Legal
All streaming is lossless. JRiver pays the licensing fees.
Listener Supported
Radio JRiver and Cloudplay are Listener Supported (https://jriver.com/listener.html). Thanks for your consideration. Give what you can. Your support makes it work.

406 users 1687 playlists 119559 tracks
Do I have to read this as Cloudplay has 406 users? Is that a joke or true? If true I would drop the whole effort. I still do not get the idea of cloudplay in this day and age of Tidal, Qobuz and even Amazon HD. I am far more interested in the possibility of having an easy mounting of cloud-services drives (without the need to sync the cloud drive to the computer or use third party software) like Dropbox and facilitate users to play their own music in the format they want (including DSD) where ever they are. I want to use that for albums which are not available in streaming services (or not in the right format like DSD; for me >25% of total).
P.S. In my view OneDrive is useless for HD music due to its character-policy which kills most of my file naming convention. Dropbox does not have that problem.

Did you try it?
The library of user tracks also feeds the Radio JRiver stations.
It's small, but it has quadrupled in size in the last six months.
It's completely lossless. It works with Play Doctor, so you can combine Cloudplay files with files from your library.

JRiver for Android can now play Cloudplay files to another machine.
As an example, I'm using an Android Phone to play a Cloudplay playlist to a JRiver Id.

Any word on multi channel audio? Thought that was on the horizon, for whatever reason my asking keeps being ignored. Is it being held to add to 26?
-
Cloudplay is a terrific feature: it is a great way to listen to high quality music.
There are so many playlists. Is there a way to search for playlists that contain a specific artist, rather than looking at them one playlist at a time?
Thank you in advance...
Ron
-
Thanks. You can use the search to search for a specific artist. You'll see a view that is limited to users who have that artist in a playlist.
-
Works perfectly - thank you...

Can I upload the whole Frank Zappa Discographie? 1.787 songs?
-
Is there a way you can add/subtract/edit a playlist without uploading the whole playlist again?
Sometimes it tells me the track already exists and sometimes not. For instance if I want to replace a track that has a higher resolution or add 1 track, but don't want to go through the hassle of doing the whole thing again. The files are already there.

When you upload a playlist a second time, MC will skip tracks that have already been uploaded.

Not a good idea. The playlists should be mixed, not single artists or single albums, in order to be compliant with streaming radio rules.
-

Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. It's a hit and miss deal.
-
Is the playlist name still the same?

It should be working in the next build of MC26.

It is. Even in the same order.

A quick question on a slightly related topic...
Sometimes, the playlists i have created will have the same song on one or two or three playlists.
Does that work with CloudPlay, i.e., can I have the same song on multiple playlists?
btw, I uploaded my first playlist yesterday, an assortment of some vinyl that I had digitized over the years. The upload process went quite smoothly (kudos!), though I would have liked a faster upload speed from my ISP for that 500MB Pink Floyd tune. :)

Oooooooh.... great news .... this could be fun. :D

I just finished the upload of another playlist.
This one, "1980's EP Singles (mostly 'new wave', mostly vinyl)" has a few of the EP singles I've accumulated from the "new wave" era of the early-ish 1980's.

Is it possible to play a cloudplay playlist via a dlna link to a renderer yet?

I have run into a limit on playlists and can't upload any more (moved from PM).
After you graciously upped limit, still can't upload. Have restarted MC26 and rebooted computer. No change in being blocked (am actually trying to update a playlist with higher resolution track I have acquired).
Get this message: "The tracks in this playlist take up 1.5 GB of space. which would put you over the limit. You are using 124 GB in the cloud and the maximum is 125 GB.

So, if I buy JRiver for Android for $9.99 and use on my Galaxy S10... can I then access Cloudplay to take advantage of the streaming options available wherever I go? If so, I assume then I could use the other streaming options as well?

Cloudplay is terrific...thanks for bringing it to us. Since there are so many playlists out there, the search function is becoming more important by the day...
Is there a way to search for high res tracks, something like 96kHz or higher?

As someone with lots of DSD files (multichannel and stereo) to offer, I'd love it if instead of complaining of invalid format it simply did the conversion to FLAC on the fly (with configurable sample rate) before uploading each track and delete it after upload.
Cheers,

I'm trying to get Cloud Play to work. I had to register online for Cloud Play as no menu button shows up in Cloud Play. I see people on the left hand side but when I click on them nothing happens.
-
Try making the player window full screen. There's a bug that prevents the menu from showing up if the screen is too small.
Screen resolution may also affect it.

I use it in full screen. I tried going into the shortcut properties and clicking disable display scaling on high dpi and even tried to change my screen resolution to 1920 x 1080. No luck. Does anybody have any other suggestions?
-
I don't know what the problem could be. What OS are you using?
Try changing the type size in your browser. You can position your cursor in the Cloudplay screen and do ctrl + and ctrl - (plus and minus) to change it.

I'm on windows 7. I tried doing as you suggested but all that did was change the volume up and down.
-
One thing I have found with screen size issues is pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL buttons simultaneously. When the screen changes select "Task Manager". When the "Task Manager" box comes up, just close it with the "X" at the top right corner. My screens always return to correct size after this.
I've also used this when in Cloudplay and selections become inactive. Works for both. I have messed with all sorts of screen resolution and NVidia setting to no avail, but this work-around works.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried this and it didn't work either. The cloud play menu just doesn't exist. I tried checking for an update and it says it's the latest version.

Hi there. Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried all the skins available. No go though. Maybe my version is corrupt. I will try to re install it later.

It's not a corrupt version. You're missing a line in the browser, so that's probably a problem with the browser or it could be a resolution problem on your monitor.
Also try the Size option in MC under the View Menu.

Does jriver support Firefox browser? That is the one I use. I tried changing font size in firefox browser, nothing. I tried clicking in the cloudplay window and pressing ctrl + or _, again all that changed was the volume. I tried updating internet explorer even though I don't use it but it just kept crashing couldn't update it. I tried setting my screen resolution to 1920x1080. Tried updationg to jriver version the newest one. I don't have chrome installed on my computer. I am on windows 7 by the way. I tried the size option in MC under the view Menu. I tried testing different skins. All nothing.

I'm getting interested in using JRiver Cloudplay. The post of October 2019 says that access by a WEB browser is coming. What's the status of this? Thanks. . . w.sachse

Found a couple of frustrations with Cloudplay.
1) I use Play Doctor with Cloudplay and have "Include Files from Cloudplay" set to 100%. If I then put "Country (Genre)" in the Search box I get only local files and absolutely no Cloudplay files
2) If I use a local song to seed the search then I get my 100% Cloudplay songs (apart from the seed song) but because of the lowest option being "Some Variety" then I get a mix of Genres. If I'm in the mood for Led Zeppelin style tracks then I don't want Justin Bieber or Cyndi Lauper coming up in my playlist.
Thanks for your help.
-
1. You can't use a genre yet. You can use a country artist and that should get you close.
2. In settings you can name artists or genres you don't want.
-
For item 2 that would be a real pain putting in all the Genres I don't want, plus I would have to change them each time I wanted to listen to a different genre.
Couldn't we have an Option of "No Variety" and it would then just default to the Genre of the seed track
Thanks

Following on from my previous post and based on your recommendation I then updated my Rules for inclusion to say "Genre contains Country" and to make it a Belt and Braces solution I added into Modify Results "Only matches of Genre"
However I am still getting some where Genre is Blank or Pop etc
Also have noticed that within the playlist I am getting duplicate tracks

Been on 24 since release and could not justify the upgrade other than supporting the devs. Downloaded 26 to test, found Cloudplay and.....Just upgraded. ;D
I was diagnosed with Coronavirus in early March, recovered and have been in lockdown now for almost a month. JRiver Media Center has kept my sanity.
Anyhow, thanks and stay safe!
-
Good to hear you've recovered. Thanks for your purchase.
-
My issue is the interface is buggy and not easy to use for finding music I am interested in. For instance, today, here were my issues. The interface does not remember my username and password even though that is checked. Then I pressed the "eclectic" button and the cursor started blinking like crazy and then JRiver went gray and Windows wanted to close it. I told Windows to wait and after 30 seconds or so, JRiver returned to normal and then I gave up using the Cloudplay feature yet again.
-
Could we stop adding Cloudplay HTTP:\\ files to the local files list, or at least make it optional (Audio>Files from the Standard View tree. If there is an option please let me know where it is.
I'm presently having to delete them manually
-
We fixed that once. Does it happen for playlists you download?
-
Have you enabled the option to import in Options > General > Importing & Tagging > Automatically import files when played?
-
In answer to Matt. No; "Automatically import files when played" is not enabled.
In answer to Jim, the latest (yesterday) was an uploaded playlist. I generally don't download playlists from Cloudplay, I just play them from the site.
To me, an uploaded playlist would make less sense, as I obviously already own all those tracks and would not need access.
-
Got it. It's the upload.
Next build:
Changed: Uploaded files are no longer added to the library as their Radio JRiver URLs.
Thanks for the help.

I just installed version 26.0.80, and subsequently uploaded a few FLAC-files to the cloud (cloudplay.)
When playing the file, the music interrupts every now and then, because of buffering. What should I do to make sure that the music is streamed without interruption?
-
You may not have enough Internet bandwidth to play high resolution files. You can set the limit of what you want to play in Cloudplay options. Try 1000Kbps. If that works, try 1500, and so on.
-
We will pass the 200,000 file mark sometime in the next week. Thank you!
We also just passed 100,000 tracks streamed per month. The first five months of this year are up about 250% over last year.
100,000 tracks played per month represents about 5,000 hours of music.
Users are very close to supporting the costs. Thanks again! It means that the Listener Supported model will work. We just need to ask a little more often.

I think Cloudplay is a Super Idea.
However, its a Non Starter for me since it prohibits .wav files.
PLEASE Enable .wav files on Cloudplay.
Thanks

I wonder how well has Cloudplay been tested elsewhere than in the USA.
We have repeating problems with a cutoff in the streaming. This is more pronounced at our country house where the network is not so strong. This does not however mean that there are problems with streaming services like Netflix and others. So the only service that is not working continuously is Cloudplay.
This might be something that can be rectified with cache settings or some other setting. But I can't see that there is anything I can do about this.
I have a different PC Win 10 in the city and on the road. The 4G modem is the same in Helsinki as at he country house. My network account gives me 50Mbps delay 13ms and jitter 4ms (tested) downstream.
I think that it is possible that the problem is not here locally but in the transfer of the stream from server ower Internet to our northern region.
-
That's probably a bandwidth limitation. In Cloudplay settings, you can specify the maximum bitrate to allow. Try 1500. You won't hear the entire playlist or, in some cases, there may be no files that play.
It's probably not related to the country. It could be the Internet provider.
-
I think Cloudplay is a Super Idea.
However, its a Non Starter for me since it prohibits .wav files.
PLEASE Enable .wav files on Cloudplay.
WAV files would use twice the bandwidth, without making a difference in the quality.
-
Lets keep aside the "without making a difference in the quality." (Would be super if diverse opinions are accommodated)
I prefer .wav hence almost my entire library consists of .wav files. I am not inclined to play .flac
-
that when users upload playlists to Cloudplay all the meta-data for each track gets uploaded also. It's not much extra space or bandwidth to add and would be nice when listening to the playlists to see. At least use the fields JRiver has as standard. Even date isn't available when using "Playing Now".
Thank you for your time and attention.
-
It's probably uploaded now, but not populated on playback. We can do that.
-
Thanks Jim, would be appreciated. I like the info when I'm listening.

Having a problem syncing downloaded Cloudplay playlists across machines.
I have an MC27 client setup to play directly from an MC27 server library. Have enabled both Authentication and Read-only Authentication on both machines. Media is working from the client and server sides.
Problem is if I download a Cloudplay playlist on the client it shows up under "Cloudplay Playlists" with all entries but only the playlist name shows up on the server machine with no entries. I tried to do a server sync on the client and it returns a success message but still no entries in the playlist on the server. Then, if I restart the client it no longer has the playlist entries (likely because that is the state of the server when it reloaded the library).
If I download a Cloudplay playlist directly on the server machine - all is good and the playlists show up populated on the clients.
Thoughts?
-

Hi Guys, first post here, but long time JRiver user, yesterday I decided to explore the cloudplay feature and uploaded one 100 song playlist. The process was completed, I got the email and the link. However, when I go to Cloudplay the playlist does not show under the recent ones or under my name. Any thoughts? I uploaded 100 Salsa music classics in Flac format.
Thanks

I don't see it either. Could you try uploading it again? It will be quick to do if the tracks were successfully uploaded the first time.
What is your user name on Cloudplay?
-
Hi Jim, thanks for the prompt reply. My user is Lagarto888, the playlist was created yesterday around 4:30pm. (Puerto Rico time) I'm able to access the playlist from the shortcut automatically created, and it shows all songs. The playlist was just uploaded again, took less than three minutes.

Excellent. I just found it and it's playing. Nice work! Me gusta mucho. Muchas Gracias por su trabajo!
It made me think maybe we could offer playlists for sale. I'd love to have yours as downloaded files.

Two things.
I may have missed it in the toolbars customization, but it would be nice if the link to "Cloudplay" could be available in the top or bottom toolbar as a shortcut.
Also, is it possible to separate albums and/or playlists in the "New Playlists" link on the Cloudplay page. I like to see what new playlists are there but when someone uploads a bunch of albums, it cycles the real playlists out rapidly on the one page available. Or is there a way to see the second page?

I can understand the problem, but people shouldn't upload albums. We're hoping to get well curated playlists. The license we have doesn't allow albums, unless (arguably) they are multi-artist playlists.

I would start a completely new subject titled "Reset Cloudplay Password" and put your first post reference this there.
Maybe it's lost in the thread where they don't see it. Starting your own separate thread is more likely to be noticed.

Thanks for your reply..
I could but this post was started by Jimh, so in theory he should see all replies to it.
I’ve had my fingers burnt in the past by starting a new post and some smart alec telling me off!
I’ll give it another couple of days.....

Today I managed to upload my first PlayList to Cloudplay. It is named "Australian Introspection". The problem is that although the upload worked and I received a confirmation email from JRiver, the PlayList has not appeared in the Cloudplay panel in MC27. My username is visible (dennismf) but it contains no playlists.
Is there a Moderation step that I must wait for?
I can see and play other PlayLists but I cannot see my own.
I have the same username and email address for my Interact and Cloudplay accounts. However the passwords are different. Is there some sort of account confusion?
Thanks and Regards,
DennisMF
PS - I added the URL provided in the confirmation email into my MC27 Streaming. This allows me to play my playlist under "Streaming" in MC27.
PS2: I have also found my new PlayList under "Playlists -> Cloudplay Playlists" in my MC27. The tags on these entries show URL's that reference RadioJRiver.
PS3: I have found that if I search for "Australian Introspection" in the MC27 Cloudplay panel, the search opens my (dennismf) user page but no Playlist is visible.

We're about to do a newsletter with a minor Valentine's theme. Can anyone suggest playlists you've uploaded or can upload that have a mushy love theme?

There is one on my account called You R Loved.

It would be nice if there was an *obvious* way to share a CloudPlay playlist with other users or on this forum.

Hi Guys,
For a decade now I have just been using JRiver MC as a music player but am now investigating its amazing functionality. Today I discovered Cloudplay, marvellous!
When I go to upload a playlist I am advised that the files need audio analysis before uploading. My question is does this process alter the music files on my hard drive or is it just the cloud files that are altered?
Thanks. ?
-
It modifies the tag for volume leveling, but not the media itself. https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Analyze_Audio
-
Thanks.
I am fastidious about my tags and would not wish fields that matter to me to be altered. Do you know what tags it might alter?
Thanks.
-
Did you read the link? Read also about volume leveling. There is no harm done to your files. It's required if you want volume leveling to work.
-
Thanks.
I am fastidious about my tags and would not wish fields that matter to me to be altered. Do you know what tags it might alter?
Thanks.
It will add fields to your files for volume leveling only. It will not effect any other data field and does not alter the file itself like older leveling programs. No worries here, whatsoever.
I highly recommend it.

Is it possible to delete a song from a playlist that I uploaded?

Delete the song on your playlist and then re-upload the entire playlist to Cloudplay.

JRiver team, what you have built with Cloudplay is really outstanding. Congratulations, and thank you everyone for uploading all for the superb music playlists.
I just set up a monthly contribution/subscription. I reckon a little pocketbook pinch will give me incentive to use it more as well :).
What is next in the development pipeline for Cloudplay, and for the interface?
Happy to throw in a few ideas:
1. User tagging - users could add keyword tags to playlists to aid in knowing what is in what
2. Add Cloudplay track links (not the actual files) to libraries - opens up links to personal tagging and smartlist usage for local libraries
3. Search box capabilities aka MC, with genre, tags, keyword, etc. Maybe this is already there and I haven't found it.
4. Call specific playlists via MCC or MCWS. For me, this would be awesome as I use a lot of custom shortcuts in my system.
Cheers, and thanks again!!!!

Where do I submit a support ticket related to Cloudplay and an older version of MC? I can't seem to be able to private message users and I don't see any zendesk or support email.

Just post it here. But since you're using an older Media Center, your results with Cloudplay may vary as it's being continually improved. You might try MC27 if you haven't already to see if the issue(s) you're encountering still exist there. But it's also worth pointing out that development for older versions of Media Center has ended (right now only MC27 is actively developed), so if there's a bug in an older MC version, it won't be fixed unfortunately and the solution would be upgrading to MC27 (assuming, again, the issue(s) don't exist in MC27).

I really dig Dawgincontrol's multichannel playlists. But the buffering is a little long, resulting in no sound and once in a while the song advances but there is no sound. Most likely the cause is my internet connection but is there any setting that would help with this?
Thanks!
-
Tools > Options > Cloudplay. Try setting a limit on the bandwidth.
-
Thanks - tried that and it didn't help much. I did increase the buffering to the max, and that helped a lot. Songs hardly ever buffer now.
Hats off to Dawgincontrol for some excellent sounding multichannel playlists!

Hi, Posting here as the link to post questions is in the MC26 section
Have a question on Cloudplay's expected behaviour with MC in a Server - Client setup
Server: MC 26.0.87 (Linux - Debian - Headless) - just realised this may be the issue. Will upgrade over the weekend
Client: MC 27.0.66 (Windows 10)
From the client
- Cannot play Cloudplay tracks when connected to the server's Library. Get error "The file could not be opened for read access (error 3).
Check permissions, ownership and that the file is not in use by another program" - Can play Cloudplay tracks when the Main library is loaded
Is this the expected behavior?
thanks,
Steve

Just I'd like to comment that today I realized Cloudplay is finally working in my setup . I've been testing these for quite a while with no luck until today. It is not that I try every day or even every week, but from time to time I tried, and today it worked !!! very happy.
For reference I use a Marantz NA6005 as streamer and JRiver 27.0.66 (64bits) on Win 10
Only thru DLNA
Many thanks for this great product ;D ;D ;D

Would really like to see some extra features added to Cloudplay.
For example I would love the ability to create a playlist on the fly by inputting a Genre or Artist and required number of songs and Cloudplay returns you the requested playlist.
Any chance of this?
-
You can use Play Doctor with Cloudplay.
-
Cloudplay isn't selective enough, the lowest restriction is Some Variety.
I chose Eric Church as Artist and in the resulting list I get Comedy from Morecambe & Wise, Piano Concerto from Camille Saint-Saens and Christmas songs plus other tracks that I wouldn't want. And I already had the filter set to not include Genre = Christmas.
Also I have Cloudplay set to 100% and it is still picking up tracks from my Library
-
I just noticed recently that the upload rate has substantially improved. Before, my upload speed was only 200 KBPS even though I have 10 MBPS upload capacity.
Now it's blazing fast at around 10 MBPS. Has Amazon removed the throttling?
-
I have Tidal subscription and I use Tidal when commuting to work because based on the reviews of the Android version of JRiver, it leaves a lot to be desired.
However, when it comes to the PC version, I have observed that my tracks on JRiver (and those of others) have superior fidelity compared to the ones on Tidal even to the Master ones. I am using the JRiver app to play my tracks and I am using the Tidal app to play tracks on it.
It seems that the JRiver app is superior to Tidal in terms of playback and in terms of contents. I don't know what Tidal calls Master but my tracks on JRiver are mostly hi-res so I can only surmise that Tidal Masters are low bitrate tracks.
It's easier to search songs on Tidal compared to going to each of my playlists on JRiver to find where the song is, so I use Tidal most of the time out of convenience. But when I really want to relish the entity of the song, I always make sure to listen to it on JRiver. There doesn't seem to be a difference between the locally stored tracks and the Cloudplay stored tracks, as long as you have a good connection. It seems that JRiver doesn't alter or compress my songs that are stored on Cloudplay.

I have been uploading playlists to Cloudplay. I have been meaning to for quite some time, but some quick tagging fixes changed into multiple hard drive failures. All is fixed now and overall Coudplay has been trouble free. It has come a long way since the start.
Some notes about the process:
If I choose a playlist then 'upload to cloud' the dialog pops up in the action window and I can choose upload or cancel. Say I choose not to upload or i can't because there is mp3 in the playlist, so I then choose another playlist to upload, the files change but the name doesn't. When choosing a new playlist to upload the list and files should be updated. I uploaded numerous playlists with the wrong name when moving to another playlist to upload while I removed mp3's.
When changes are made to a playlist then it is re-uploaded, just the changes are uploaded instead of everything. This is great.
When a playlist is finished uploading, the current tab in MC changes to Cloudplay. I would would prefer this to happen in a new tab or not at all.
Once a playlist is uploaded, it then appears in the "Cloudplay Playlists" playlist group. This makes sense, but all of the playlists are empty and do essentially nothing. Are they supposed to be populated?
Uploading many playlists is a bit tedious to do one at a time even with a decent internet connection. It would be nice to have the ability to upload more than one at a time. One way could be to allow selecting multiple playlists, another could be the ability to mark playlists as Cloudplay then 'sync all' to upload new ones and any changes that have been made since last sync. Just ideas, I wouldn't want to complicate things but I think it would help with bulk uploads.
-

I can confirm the problem. We'll check.

I enjoy putting together playlists on topics, subjects, genre, artists, etc. And I have one on love songs. My latest is The Black Album by the Beatles. I revise existing playlists usually adding titles that I discover fit into existing playlists.

Jim,
how do I filter to view only the multichannel playlists?

No way possible at this time. Sorry.

I see that cloudplay is available now on jremote2 on Android. But I can only play it to my device which is a phone. Is there a way to play it to my AVR? When I try it fails. I'm on JR 27.

Could you try MC28? Cloudplay will work in Theater View. You may need to add it in Theater View settings.

Could you try MC28? Cloudplay will work in Theater View. You may need to add it in Theater View settings.
What's the connection between theater view and jremote2?
Can I try 28 as a trial somehow without messing up my 27 install? Not really wanting to pay to upgrade to test a feature.
-
No connection. I just thought you wanted Cloudplay on your AVR.
Yes. No trial ever messes up anything.
-
Sorry yes Jim I want to play JRiver on my AVR, but the device that is running JRiver is in another room. The Denon AVR shows up in JRiver as a device I can play to.
I think I found one issue. When I do this it doesn’t want to play my “favorited” playlists. This is what I was trying to do. If I go to “latest” or “popular” those will work. So that’s great. I believe I can import my favorites and then find them under playlists. So that may be a work around.
-
I once again got the marketing e-mail message that JRiver send to us all. In every message, Cloudplay is mentioned as if it is very well developed and is superb in every sense.
What I have been waiting for for some years already is that JRiver would upgrade Cloudplays user interface to the level the service deserves. Now the UI is like something somebody just did very fast put together.
Technically the music plays fine and the value of Cloudpläy is great but it needs to be developed further.
- Search is not really working so that you can find specific records or artists.
- The upper part of the Cloudplay window works differently depending on how wide the window is. So you can't see "New playlists", "New user" etc if the window is narrow.
- You don't see which playlist you are listening to under "Playing Now".
- If you want to check and go back to Cloudplay you lose the list and cannot find it again if you don't remember who had uploaded it.
This is not a complete list of features to look over or to add as it is not my responsibility to define the product.
I'm the consumer that pays the bill and if the product does not develop then I don't see the reason to pay for updates.
-
Guilty as charged.
-
I would love to see some growth in the user functionality of cloudplay. A solid base is certainly there.

I just really started to dive into this cloudplay thing, and after a few hours of messing about with it, I am extremely happy I did. You see, I am not really a playlist guy. At least playlists by Tidal or Apple Music or any streaming service. I try - I want them to be what I need, but I can't even count the times I have typed in " Alternative rock" or "Wilco" or whatever, and then pressed play and two songs in I kill it. "What the hell s this???" it's just never what I want...
But this cloudplay thing? well, this is real people - real JRiver people! Which I am realizing means real music lovers - people with great, eclectic tastes. I have quickly found a few playlists that not only do I not want to kill after two songs, but I wish I had longer to listen to the whole thing (bed time)! And they are lossless!!!!! sounds great!
Excited to dive in more and perhaps contribute, but as I said, not much of a playlist guy. I listen to albums.
Anyway, this a nice sweet surprise for someone who started using JRiver about 3 months ago, and has quite frankly become tired of streaming b/c of the above. Lately I have been listening to my 600 or so freshly re ripped in ALAC CDs (and I even started digitizing my vinyl). I am becoming a local library guy - but I yearn to discover music, and this has been a nice revelation.
Thanks to all who have uploaded!

Thank you, Ian! That's a perfect description of what we had in mind when we began building Cloudplay a few years ago.

So big deal, we have 350,000 tracks now.
Spotify claims 82,000,000. Apple is around 90,000,000.
My take on the numbers is this. The 350,000 is closer to what people actually listen to. By definition, it's what JRiver users listen to. And it's all lossless. Some is high resolution and some is even multi-channel.
More zeros won't increase the quality or diversity of the music.
-
(and I even started digitizing my vinyl).

Thanks to all who have uploaded!
Please, digitize your vinyl. I've been digitizing my vinyl for the past 10 years or so. (about 1/3 of the way through...) One thing I've noticed is that on some albums, the CD "mix" is different than the vinyl "mix."
The vinyl version seems to have less volume compression than the digital version (Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers album is a glaring example). And then there is the censored lyrics of many digital releases of the vinyl albums.
So, please, take the time to digitize your vinyl.
And create playlists with moods and themes for others to enjoy!
Thx.

Listening to: 'Con Alma' from 'Live at the Concertgebouw 1961' by 'Oscar Peterson Trio' with JRiver Media Center 29
zorbec's playlist of Lost Oscar Peterson
Though not a playlist and more of an album, it's fantastic listening. I tried to find it to buy the CD but couldn't.
Thanks, zorbec!
Concertbegouw is a concert hall in Amsterdam: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Concertgebouw

Hi Jim: You piqued my interest as I am a Oscar Peterson fan. Last week I watched a short film on his career that I enjoyed. Do not know he was somewhat a child prodigy, well an adolescent prodigy. Doing some diggin, I'm wondering if this is in fact the recording you were referring to:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_Peterson_at_the_Concertgebouw
AllMusic also has the same Information, however, the recording the article refers to does not have the song you mentioned so perhaps this is an entirely different recording. The album they mention is available from Amazon for bargain price of under 10 bucks. Going to give the playlist on Cloudplay a listen!
Larry
You likely saw this. Hard to believe a performance labeled Live at the Concertgebouw could be as this article suggests.
-
Thanks, Larry! Odd indeed.

Been playing around with CloudPlay the last few days and am impressed with both the quality and quantity of music that is available. However, before I start sharing my own music, I do have a question as to the legality of the system. One of the posts states that all the streaming music is covered by " a streaming license" paid for by JRiver and that "nobody can download your files or play them on-demand". However, there seems to be nothing in place to stop someone from downloading a playlist to Media Center and playing any track "on-demand" It is very possible that I have an incorrect understanding of what "on-demand" means in the world of streaming music. Could someone clarify things for me? Thanks in advance.
-

The playlist is free to download, but the tracks aren't. The playlist has links to the tracks that are stored on our server on Amazon S3. It is streaming.
The license covers mixed playlists, not single albums or single artists.

I decided to poke at CloudPlay again tonight after only using it a bit after it's initial launch. I did a test search for "Tex Ritter" and my account came up but with no playlist. I currently have no playlists as all mine were from before when playlists were uploaded w/o files. These were supposedly deleted, which is all good. I just wanted to give the team a heads up that maybe there needs to be a database clean up done or a maintenance mode added if results from these old playlists are still being brought up?
Also, will CloudPlay be added to the Features section of the options so we can disable it if we are not using it?
-
- If you want to check and go back to Cloudplay you lose the list and cannot find it again if you don't remember who had uploaded it.
One thing I do is if (Rather When) I find a playlist I like on the right hand side of the playlist there is a "Download" Cloud icon link. This does not download the actual music but adds the playlist to your playlists under "Cloudplay Playlists" Than you can go back to it anytime.

You can also "Like" them.
-
Haven't seen this mentioned yet.
When you download a playlist you can then select individual tracks from those playlists and create your own custom playlists. Of course you can't upload those because the music remains in CloudPlay.
But a great way to get custom playlists for great music you may not own.
Carl.

See if this fixes it for you....
In my case the menu disappears when the cloudplay window is too narrow. So, not the overall size of the application's window, but rather just the size of cloudplay's window.
I decrease size of the leftmost tree control (grab bar between tree control and clouplay window) to increase size of the cloudplay window and the menu reappears.
In my case it seems that if tree control is too wide the cloudplay menu will not display
-
You can also use ctrl + and ctrl - to change the font size temporarily if needed.
It's clearly a bug.
-
I'm enjoying Cloudplay very much and appreciate both its development and the many playlist contributions. However, I've searched in vain for a way to transfer a Cloudplay playlist to another server.
My PC is one server and an IdPi hosts two linked servers (Main and House speakers). We access the IdPi mostly using JRemote, although sometimes through Remote Server. Ideally, I'd like to right click and use Send To to send a Cloudplay playlist to the IdPi. Alternatively, I'd like a way to find where I found the playlist -- like the name of the contributor. (If I'd thought ahead I'd have entered it as a note.)
-
If you click on the heart button, it gets added to your profile.
-
Thank you. That's logical. But there's no heart button for the Cloudplay playlists that I've already saved.
-
Thank you. That's logical. But there's no heart button for the Cloudplay playlists that I've already saved.
Since then I've gone back through my Cloudplay playlists, found their source, and duplicated them manually. In the future I'll make note of where something came from so I can duplicate it later.
-
This is an issue I previously entered as a bug in the Id section. Now that I'm finding it in my PC (after a daily file scan, I presume) I realize that it is part of the standard Cloudplay playlist implementation. While we love Cloudplay, we dislike this aspect of it.
I put significant time into setting up the Genres for our local files; they represent our thinking about how we want to access our music. So we consider including Cloudplay playlist files in our Genres to be a form of pollution. Being able to edit the local name for the Cloudplay playlists is enough control for us to find what we want there; we don't want to be able to access those files through Genres.
Please either create a switch to control this behavior and/or add something like "Local Genres" as an alternative Genres display.
-
A search for -https should leave out Clouplay files.
-
A search for -https should leave out Clouplay files.
This is almost the filter that I'd like to apply to Albums, Artists, Files, and Genres. (Please see my last paragraph.)
The reason for our unhappiness with the effects of Cloudplay playlists is that we have spent decades accumulating music that we love. By including Cloudplay files in the data just like our local files MC has made it more difficult for us to find that music. It's nice to find new music -- and Cloudplay is wonderful for that -- but our music is more important to us.
So we have to chose, and we have chosen to delete all Cloudplay playlists. I've kept a spreadsheet with the information to find them, hoping that someday we can use them again.
BTW, after I deleted all Cloudplay playlists there were 500 files left behind that I had to delete manually. Some of those files were "http", not "https", so the filter would not have caught all that it was intended to.
-
An easier way than "Search" is to go to the tree on the left side of Standard View.
Select Audio>Files
In the main window there is a header called "Location under the word Files
Under that is a Header that says All Locations (with a number in parenthesis)
Under there is a listing of all the locations where MC is using for your files/tracks.
Just right click and delete the http or https link.
-
Posted this as a reply to Cinelder's post "Cloudplay and Play Doctor not Integrating" but decided to move it here as I think it is a flaw in Cloudplay processing.
Running JRiver 29.0.67 and have similar problems with Cloudplay and Play Doctor
In Cloudplay options for "Files to be included" I have
-[Media Sub Type]=[Audiobook],[Podcast],[Test Clip] -[Album]="Christmas" ~nodup=[Artist],[Name]
In Play Doctor options I have "Some Variety" ticked (only because there is no option to have "No Variety"
"Include Files from Cloudplay" is set to 100%
"Set Rules for Files That Can Be Included" is
[Media Type]=[Audio] +[Genre]=[Country] ~n=100
So I go into Cloudplay, type Country into the Search Box and hit play
The first track I always get is off my local disk and then the rest are Cloudplay tracks but I get Pop, Pop/Rock, Folk Rock and 70s Pop as various genres that turn up.
Why am I not just getting Country as I specified? Also why the Local track when I have said 100% from Cloudplay?
Also I get exactly the same result if I put "Country" in the Play Doctor box in the Active Zone
Am I doing something wrong or is this just not working properly?
Thanks, Mike
-
An addendum to my #189 above: After a few days I decided to try again, so I added a few Cloudplay playlists to both our IdPi and desktop systems. When the http sources were ignored by Genres I added the rest of the Cloudplay playlists that we particularly link. It's now been two weeks and there are no http sources in Files or Genres in either system. I know that the IdPi MC version hasn't changed during this time, but both systems are now working as I prefer them to work. As I can't believe that this is chance, I'd like to say thank you.
-
Anyone got any clues as to the problem I raised in my previous post?
-
Is cloudplay supposed to work with the Android TV app? I tried it last night, when I tried to select a playlist the app either froze and went back to home screen or crashed entirely. Tried 3 or 4 times and gave up.
-
I am new to Cloudplay. I have created my account and uploaded a few playlists. When I attempt to access cloudplay via a web browser I get a connection error:
"Changes are only accepted from authenticated clients. Enable authentication on the server in Options > Media Network."
Is this to be expected or is it a problem?
I have gone to Options/ Media Network and confirmed my logon account and password.
I have ticked Authentication (it was already on, but I turned off and back on again)
I have set read-only authentication to "everyone" ( have tried all options, and now is set to everyone)

Posted the following as a problem in JRiver V2929.0.83 with Cloudplay and got reply from JimH saying this should be moved to Cloudplay thread.
JimH says Cloudplay is supposed to work more like radio. Does the Cloudplay license prohibit searching by Genre or Artist and restricting the results to only that Genre or Artist? If it doesn't then couldn't we have another Radio Button in the Play Doctor options that restricts the results to only the entered Genre or Artist?
Also the problem with the first run of Cloudplay versus subsequent runs needs sorting out as some people will just give up on it if it doesn't work properly the first time
Hoping you can take a look at this when you get a chance
Regards, Mike

Running Cloudplay and Play Doctor
In Cloudplay options for "Files to be included" I have
-[Media Sub Type]=[Audiobook],[Podcast],[Test Clip] -[Album]="Christmas" ~nodup=[Artist],[Name]
In Play Doctor options I have "Some Variety" ticked (only because there is no option to have "No Variety"
"Include Files from Cloudplay" is set to 100%
"Set Rules for Files That Can Be Included" is
[Media Type]=[Audio] +[Genre]=[Country] ~n=100
So I go into Cloudplay, type Country into the Search Box and hit play. If this is the first time doing this then I get one track off my local disk in Playing Now and then about a minute later the rest of the list appears but every track is off my local disk. The time this takes seems like it tries to go to Cloudplay and fails so reverts to local disk as in next scenario the Cloudplay list is populated in about 25 seconds.
If I stop play and clear Playing Now and then redo the same search then we move into the scenario as follows...
Thanks, Mike

The Cloudplay is creating enormous clutter on my desktop, is there any way to disable the creation of desktop symbolic links? I mean, what good are they anyway since the source content is on my server anyway?
-
If they're from your uploads, just delete them or put them all in a single folder.
-
Cloudplay just hit 400,000 tracks. 8) ;D
-
Thanks! More than 20 TB of lossless music available for streaming now.
-
Cloudplay is fantastic and I plan to upload several lossless playlists of classical music.
One thing however, while the tracks in the selected playlist playback just fine in pristine quality on my laptop I just cannot figure out how to play them wirelessly over a home network on my music system :-[. My dac is hooked up to the wireless router and to the amplifier.
Would be grateful if someone could point me in the right direction.
Many thanks

You might be able to do it with DLNA if the device on the receiving end understands DLNA.

I've not been able to upload the all-lossless playlist I just created. I've run through all the standard checklist items. When I right click on the playlist, the Cloudplay upload button is greyed out, suggesting it has already been uploaded, but nothing appears in the Cloudplay view; I've adjusted screen and text size in case that was a problem.
One thing I note: My array contains the server; two NAS devices; and 3 externals for my large library, and somewhere I note that Cloudplay does not work with remote files. A number of files in my playlist reside in the NAS and externals. What constitutes remote for these purposes: The Server (obviously not)? My NAS or external drives? Truly remote sources, eg outside the local network? Any other suggestions for how to complete the upload process?
Thanks as always
-
Maybe some are already from Cloudplay. Take a look at the file locations.
Try a test playlist of a few files. The minimum is 5.
External drives aren't a problem. Nor a NAS. Server maybe.
-
685 users 5393 playlists 417447 tracks
-
... Server maybe....
fwiw... I upload playlists [semi-]regularly.
The PC I use to upload those playlists is my main Windows desktop PC (that I often call the MC Server in my comments here).
The actual music files (i.e., all that FLAC stuff) are located on a FreeBSD/ZFS (running Samba for the Windows shares) server down in the basement that is "attached" to that desktop via a Windows share.
OK, having said all that. I've never had any issues uploading a playlist to Cloudplay. It has always just worked.

I hope I posting this in the right forum.
It seems that the CloudPlay password I had in my password management app was wrong, so I had to change it via the "Forgot your Password".
I followed instructions in the email, changed it, and got two messages in the page. One message in blue with the "Your password was changed" wording (or something like that), and the other in yellow with the wording "You have to confirm your account before continuing".
How can I confirm my account? I only got an email for password reset, but didn't get an email with a new link after I changed it.
Without confirming it, every attempt to login with the new password obviously gives me that "You have to confirm your account before continuing" message.
-
Did you check your spam folder? Try resending.
-
I have signed up and used the confirmation link that came via email. My name shows up in the list of users. But for most actions I get a response of “You have to be signed into Cloudplay to do that, would you like to do that now?” and even if I click “Yes” nothing really happens.
-
The Cloudplay user registration is different from the forum registration.
-
Yes I understand that. Maybe it was a cache issue, but I just re-opening MC and eventually it caught.

Who is John Pazos? I'm listening to some nice boleros from this recent playlist by Lupus: Latin Lovers Only.
I looked online without much success for a bio but finally found this:
JOHN PAZOS ES UN PIANISTA Y DIRECTOR MUSICAL COLOMBIANO CON GRAN RECONOCIMIENTO INTERNACIONALMENTE, DIRIGIÓ ORQUESTAS DE CELIA CRUZ , CHEO FELICIANO, ANDY MONTAÑEZ, MARIANO CIVICO, RIKARENA. REY RUIZ Y OTRAS MÁS.

Thanks, Lupus!

I'm trying to sign up/on for the Cloudplay but it's not recognizing my email and password used to sign onto the Forum when I try to sign in. When I tried "sign up" and used my user name Mebobo with a different password it said it's already taken. Any help on this? Love to upload some music for folks!
-
The forum registration is different from Cloudplay.
I don't see a user named Mebobo on Cloudplay. Maybe you're using your email for another username.
-
Apologies, got it to work. Had previously signed up and saved in LastPass.

I tried to upload some multichannel dsd encoded files and cloudplay wasn't having anything to do with that. What are the exact limitations of cloudplay uploading and when will it support dsd encoding?
-
DSD is not supported. Cloudplay only supports lossless and compressed PCM files, FLAC, ALAC and APE. DSD would be significantly larger then any of those, as its not typically compressed (and even DST compression is not very efficient).

...so I can upload 900MB 192khz 6 channel flac files, but cannot upload 400MB 6 channel dsd files?

Hi all,
I want to try Cloudplay, but I have sign-in problems.
When i try to sign up it says my user name is already used. I don't exactly know if it is my user name , mpinfer, what is used, or my email, where all JRiver notifications are sent to me, what is already used.
I try to sign in and it says "Invalid username or password". I try to use the option "Forgot password" with my email and no email with password reset instructions arrive.
Any clue? Probably it has been answered before, but I haven't been able to find it.
Thanks all, Manuel.
-
Spam folder? Different email address?
The closest user name I see is mpf101.
-
Hi Jim, thank you very much.
You are so kind and I'm a little bit silly, after my long experience with email problems.
Obviously, it was in the spam folder! :( Password changed and problem solved.
I'm now listening to a baroque list of Hoegu, thank's for it. I have to upload my first! 8)
Thanks again. Best, Manuel.

Are there any plans to make if possible to analyze Cloudplay files in order to use volume leveling?
-
I believe they are all analyzed prior to uploading. Try enabling volume leveling.
-
Once, when I tried uploading a playlist to Cloudplay and one of the songs had not been "audio analyzed" I was greeted with a message asking me to "audio analyze" before I upload.
So now, Analyze Audio is on my checklist for my playlist uploads. :)
fwiw, here is my checklist. Suggestions welcomed...
- check the date on songs from compilation, best hits, etc. albums
- check capitalization for artist, album and song title
- check punctuation for artist, album and song title (e.g. Its vs It's)
- check the genre for the songs
- clear Comments field
- clear Notes field
- clear the Description field, if appropriate
- check for appropriate cover art
- check title of playlist for proper capitalization and punctuation
- Analyze Audio on the entire playlist
-
I believe they are all analyzed prior to uploading.
No, they are not.

Have you checked the R128 tag?
Take a look at "Peak Level R128" under the Playback section. I just checked and it is filled.
ReplayGain is no longer used. It hasn't been for many years now.
There is a search window at the bottom.

I have checked my downloaded playlists (quite many), and only 4 % of the tracks have a value in the Peak Level R128 and Volume Level R128 fields.

Cloudplay is great! Thanks.
I'd like to report a problem that I'm having with it.
Since the last few MC updates, the Cloudplay view had the colors changed and, depending on the MC's skin, it is unreadable.
I use the Purity skin. With this skin the background is mid gray and the text is light gray. It is no possible to read. In MC30 the background is white and the text is black.
With other skins the Cloudplay colors change and become readable again, but it should be readable with any skin. I could not find any other skin that I like.
I attached two screen shots. One from MC31 and the other from the MC30.
Thanks
EDIT: I found a workaround. Using Internet Explorer as a browser engine fix the issue with the Cloudplay, but brakes the spotlight. Both Edge and Chromium engine has the same problem.
I also found out that signing out and signing in again changes the color scheme temporarily while I keep that view opened. If I close the tab and open Cloudplay again, the issue happens again.

I am signed into to cloudplay, but every time i click the play symbol i get a request to sign in. this means i cannot play anything. why?
-
Try logging out and back in.
Try rebooting.

JRiver for Android can now play Cloudplay files to another machine.
As an example, I'm using an Android Phone to play a Cloudplay playlist to a JRiver Id.
Not available in iOS?
-
Search DJ is a new feature. In build 68, it allows you to search for a list of artists and play them from Cloudplay. It's under the Tools Menu and on the Playing Now page.
Thanks, Matt, for putting it together.

500,000 tracks now
-
Last few times I've uploaded a playlist, I've gotten numerous random fails on tracks. Have had to cancel and retry or reupload the playlist. It becomes tiresome. Don't know the cause because many times it will go to the next track and complete it.
Has happened before, but not to the extent of the last couple of weeks.

I can think of two possibilites.
The first is a general network problem.
The second is that some of the files are very big. High Rez, etc.
-
We know what this problem is, and it's fixed now in MC32. We won't fix it in MC31.
-
Many thanks for the status update.
-
I've lost the ability to upload to Cloudplay, which I assume is associated with this topic. Every upload fails. I am running v30.0.96. I was updating the play list "2020 Releases-Women in Music Pt 1" Somehow the failed upload resulted in a playlist that was 42 songs, to now only the opening track, all the others are no longer in the Cloudplay playlist. I am unable to fix this.
Are you saying any version below 32 can no longer upload to Cloudplay?
Regards,
Larry
-
Could someone test Cloudplay upload now with MC32? MC32 is on the MC32 board.
Thanks.
-
Using the MC32 I've just uploaded the playlist that I couldn't upload with MC31. The upload was slower that usual but it worked! Thanks!
-
I just uploaded a playlist using MC 32.
The upload went smoothly.
Many thanks!
