I am just implementing a SCHIIT LOKI DAC into my system (Win 8.1., MC 20.0.13):
I got the audio part running easily, FLACs in PCM are converted to DSP on the fly, and are playing smoothly so far.
However, i am trying now to play a movie, but there is no sound??
Maybe this info from the movie tags helps:
MP4 video (video: AVC1, audio: MP4 AAC)
Bit Depth 16
Thanks!

Under Audio settings, how is Bitstreaming set?

Configuration under "Video":

Bitstreaming: Yes (DSD)
See also attached screenshots...

Try changing that. You don't want DSD, at least.

Didnīt help. Also with "Bitstreaming: None" in Audio-settings, still no sound while playing a movie...

I have set up again JRMC20 according to the help page of Schiit: http://schiit.com/guides/dsd-setup (settings for Windows) to make sure that I havenīt misconfigured something.
Still no success with video sound. Tried this with mp4 and now also with a DVD.
I have made another screenshot of the audio path while running the mp4. Something, which I found strange: "not using enough bits to output the input directly"
Pls. see attached screenshot.

The Loki is a dedicated DSD DAC. Sadly, MC can only encode audio files to DSD.

Thanks Fangio, after some further extensive tests and playing around with the settings, i came to the same assumption today. I hoped it it is possible to convert the audio streams of movies with the LOKI as well.
However, the LOKI is not connected to my HTPC, which I use for watching movies on the TV. I am using the LOKI for my laptop together with monitors or headsets. So Audio is the main purpose of my setup, and this is working!
For tagging movies on my laptop, i have setup an automated zone switch, sending all mp4 files to a zone, using the standard laptop audio drivers...

I use my Loki to listen to SACD iso's, and an EDAC (ODAC) for everything else.

The LOKI is my first try with 24bit files / DSP, etc. I was also buying a little splitter on Amazon in order to be able to compare: 1) laptop without DAC --> Amp --> monitors at the same time with the same song to 2) other laptop --> DSP LOKI --> AMP --> monitors.
Actually I want to really see, if I can hear any difference in a direct comparison. So far it looks like the sound is much better after trying the LOKI for the last 10 days, but maybe this is just kind of "placebo-effect"? :)
SACDīs I havenīt tried out. Maybe I buy one for comparison as well. I am a little but hesitating with this because of the file size. When you once start with this, you might end up with terrabytes of storage? So far, I was quite happy already with FLACs...

If you are comparing an inbuilt audio chip with the Loki, the improvement should be very noticeable!

Yes, that is exactly, what I want to find out. After years of Laptop built in Chip-sound only.
I also have the MODI. Am interested to hear the difference to LOKI with DSP...

If you want to better compare the two DACs, I suggest you get hold of a few SACD iso's and experiment with bitstreaming and DSP with the Loki. Then compare with the Modi. Two SACD's that have made me sit up and take notice are Thriller and Dark Side of The Moon. Your musical taste may be different, of course :)

Fangio, it seems that I cannot successfully run the LOKI on my system. Could you pls tell me your settings on this thread? Thanks.
