Title: Shell integration in Vista64
Post by: mesue on June 28, 2008, 02:24:00 pm
Is shell integration supposed to work in Vista64? I have it enabled in MC options, but I don't have the MC stuff in my right click menu in Windows Explorer.

You have to reboot after an install if it has changed in MC.

Edit: See confishy's post (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=47183.msg323776#msg323776) below for a solution for 64 bit OS's.

I rebooted again just to make sure. It's still not there. I have "Play in Media Center" when I right click directly on a music file, but I don't have the "Media Center" submenu when I right click on a folder, like I used to. It had "Import into MC" and a few other options.

What a coincidence (?), I noticed the same thing today on my media center on the Vista x64 that I have hooked up to my tele.

It works on my laptop (also vista, but 32 bit).

On this one, I've tried turning it off and on, restarting in between.  No matter what, not bringing up those options.

I have never had it work, either.  From what I've read in the forums it just isn't going to work :(

Any hope for this?

Is there any way to get Vista64 to load a 32-bit shell extension?  I don't really see why it'd be a problem.

If not, this will have to wait for the 64-bit version of Media Center, which will be a ways down the road.

The answer is apparently to use the 32 bit Windows Explorer.... see here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/895561

To use the 32-bit version of Windows Explorer, follow these steps:

Click Start, click Run, type the following in the Open box, and then click OK:

    Drive_Letter:\windows\syswow64\explorer.exe /separate

Note The placeholder Drive_Letter represents the drive where the x64-based version of Windows is installed.

Thanks - that did the trick!

Except when I'm adding media to my library, it's almost always in theater mode anyway, so no big deal.

Good to know the 32-bit Windows Explorer is a work around, but would it be possible for MC to have a 64-bit shell extension that works with the 32-bit MC?
