I hope this is the right place to post a query on gapless playback. I've done some forum searches and haven't come across the exact topic in discussion.
The problem is simply this - when using Media Centre I can't get tracks that segue into each other to play without a gap.
At the moment I'm using Linn's Kinsky and Kazoo software and my music plays without gaps. I do find that Linn's software to be clunky on my computer.
My system:
Windows 10 laptop 64-bit running Linn Kinsky and Linn Kazoo software and Linn Kazoo Server.
My music is stored on a WD MY CLOUD drive. This feeds into a Linn DS and then on to a Quad Vena amp & B&W speakers.
The music is predominantly ripped to FLAC format, plus a bit of ALAC.
When I use either Kinsky or Kazoo the music plays continuously from track to track on artists like Floyd or Oldfield who use a lot of 'continuous' music without track breaks.
I have all of the gapless boxes ticked in Music Centre but it always plays a 3-second silent gap between each track.
I do like using Music Centre and would upgrade to MC26 but not if it won't play gapless.
Can anyone help me on this one?

Hello,
Is the Linn DS connected to the computer via USB or optical or coaxial? If not, is it playing via network then? If it's network, then MC will be using DLNA. As far as I know, DLNA is not capable of gapless playback.
If it's using a USB or other hard wired (non-network) connection, then gapless should just be matter of the right settings.
Brian.

Hello Brian - thanks for the reply.
Yes the laptop is connected to the Linn DS via my network hub.

First, check to make sure that SetNext support isn't disabled. In MC, under Playing Now, right-click your Linn, choose DLNA Controller Options, and verify that "Disable SetNext Support" isn't checked.
If that doesn't help, you can probably get gapless from MC if you install BubbleUPnP Server somewhere on your network. (It can be on your MC server.) Set up your Linn device in Bubble as an OpenHome Renderer, and give it a distinct name. Then play to this device in MC. Sorry, I'm not using Bubble Server right now and I don't have a Linn device, so I can't give you detailed instructions for this, but there is plenty of info out there if you google something like "Linn gapless BubbleUPnP".

It might be better to run AndrewFG's Whitebear Digital Media Renderer Analyser utility (http://www.whitebear.ch/dmra) and post the report here, to see what the Linn DS is capable of via DLNA.

AVT:SetNextAVTransportURI (gapless play)=NOT Supported
Doesn't look like gapless playback is supported by the Linn DS.
-
Thanks for the reply and the conclusion.
I had been a user of JRiver before I bought the Linn DS, but had great difficulty getting the JRiver to work with the DS especially on the gapless front.
Linn's software isn't that good, and especially Kazoo which when you run it it spends literally hours searching for the DS. Once it finds it within half an hour it loses it again.
I really wanted to upgrade to JRiver 26 but I won't bother now.

To be clear, the fault isn't with JRiver Media Center, but with the Linn DS itself not supporting SetNextAVTransportURI which enables gapless playback over DLNA.

When trying to find your device (Linn DS) online, to see it's specs, I found a whole family of devices. So I'm not sure which exact model you have.
So here's the question I was trying to find the answer to: Does your DS have any other inputs that are not network based? I saw several models that have HDMI inputs. If your DS has some other kind of digital input, then it likely will be able to play gapless from MC on your laptop to the DS.
Networked audio is... well... let's just say I don't think it's quite as mature as directly connected audio.
Good luck.
Brian.

Hello Brian,
All that I know is that mine's called a Linn Sneaky DS. It has only an ethernet port on the reverse and that's connected to my network hub.
I will just plod on with the (frustrating) Linn software.
Thanks.
Terry.

If you have an Android phone or tablet, BubbleDS for Linn DS gets very good reviews in the Google Play store.
