Title: Files and folders all messed up (during the last couple of monts?)
Post by: okvaal on February 20, 2021, 06:03:24 am
Yesterday, I was going to play some files from MM27. I clicked a song, but was told that the file could not be found; check the library filename vs. the disk filename.
1. Right-click/On Disk (External) tells me that the file does not exist on Users/MyName/Music/JRiver/Musicfiles. (In fact, checking by using Finder, that Folder IS almost empty, and has not been used since MC 24.
2. However, «Spotlight» tells me the folders including my music only exist as a backup copy on Dropbox (last used in 2018).
So this seems to be my only option to find my old files. (Few new have been added, so it isn’t THAT bad.)
3. Of some reason, since December -19 my backups have been stored under iCloud/Documents/JRiver. But trying to restore my library from there, A) lets me know the backup was successful, but B) I still cannot play any files.
4. All in all, I guess I will have som relocating to do, but I need some slow and patient guidance through all this, I guess.
Please?

I'd  suggest to physically move the files from online storage to a local structure you want to use. Then point MC to the structure with the File Copy/Move (F6) function. Be careful, though, this is a powerful tool that will move and rename things so you need to understand exactly what will happen before you execute. Try with a few files first to get the hang of it, and when you feel comfortable, do all fo them. Also, remember there is an "undo" function.
Good luck!

Thanks a lot, HaWi. It solved 95 % of my problem. The remaining part lead to another thread. :-)
