Title: AirPlay from MC - would this work?
Post by: TheShoe on December 30, 2019, 08:07:45 am
currently from MC on my HTPC, i use hdmi audio to a Marantz for video+audio, and a separate DSD DAC for audio only music playback.   each is a separate zone.

since my motherboard has integrated audio essentially doing nothing and appearing as an audio device in windows, i propose to configure it as an Airplay zone, and then use Tuneblade to listen on that device and airplay to various airplay speakers around the house.

given what i have read this should be possible without needing to use something like Tuneaero or VB-Cable  (which sets up a virtual audio device in windows) in addition to Tuneblade.

for those who have done similar, does this sound possible?

it is not clear to me why i would use Tuneaero which seems to synch audio across multiple speakers.  if Tuneblade can airplay to multiple at once, what purpose does Tuneaero serve?

Did some experimenting.  The audio device from the integrated audio shows up as S/PDIF in Windows Sound control panel and as HD Audio [WSAPI] in MC.  If I configure the Zone audio device as non-exclusive in MC, Tuneblade works.  JRemote (iOS)/Panel work fine to play to the zone.

This integrated audio device is limited to 48kHz only; so even 44.1 needs to be up-sampled.  Have to check out VB-Cable and see if it supports additional formats.  Seems a simple Airplay solution for MC - took < 15 mins. to install/set up!
