Anyone know a method how to see what compression is a flac in MC? I did try to find ways to show but I didn't find anywhere. I did use chatgpt to guide me, but that didn't help me. If anyone knows maybe you can share with me. Thx.

Thanks for the posts, I am wondering if there is a simpler solution.  I don't want to buy additional backup software.  I don't need to keep everything continuously synchronized.

Would it work to just save a library backup on the desktop PC, delete the music folder on the portable SSD, copy the entire music file from the desktop and paste to the portable SSD, then restore the library backup on the laptop?

I would just do this as needed, probably about once a month.
Yes it would work, but copying all your media files once a month is overkill.  IMO it is well worth the investment in a folder compare utility such as BeyondCompare, or maybe try a free utility such as WinMerge.

Then use the comparison software to copy only the new or changed albums to client's own media drive.  MC automatically imports the new files into its library, including the artwork.  The whole thing flows smoothly when both server and client use exactly the same folder structure for audio media.  I've been doing this "manually" for years for two different clients, without "automatic" continuous syncing.  There are possible gotchas with dynamic fields like "last played date" if not saved to tags, but it sounds like you may not care about that.

I find there is no need to go the full library save / cross restore route until there are significant changes in my server's views, playlists, custom fields, etc. which I want to incorporate on the clients.

It's automatic. Try to rip a previously ripped disc, and MC detects that, and provides options....

One other aspect I am curious about....

Where do the images come from?

When those images are downloaded from that site, is the IP address used for the download my IP address, or a server that JR has?

The reason I ask is  --- if it is my IP address, then there may be a leakage of information.

I note the JR Privacy document ( https://www.jriver.com/privacy.html )  (last modified August 2, 2005) does not mention this current scenario.

I had been using an Oppo Sonica as the music source for my 2 channel system but due to lack of support and its age I upgraded to the Cambridge Audio MXN10 DAC/Streamer so I could have access to Tidal and other music apps. My JRiver server shows up on the Cambridge Stream Magic app, just like on the Sonica app but when I choose a file there is no music. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Keep in mind I’m only reasonably fluent in JRiver terminology.

The last two items are automatically included in the media files sync if the cover art is stored in the music file tags, or located in the same media file directory as the audio files (organized in per-album directories and then folder sync).

True for album art and video art. Not true for artists art.

The update/install worked flawlessly.

Thank-you.

fwiw, I am considering replacing the Windows PC running MC in my entertainment center with the Linux flavor of MC.  Mainly because I do not want to deal with the Windows 11 hardware demands.

Smooth updates, such as this one, are making my decision easier.

Thank-you again.

You lose any ability to use JRiver's DSP.

Depending on what hardware processor you have on the other end, that could be considered a plus or a minus.

The new "Active" templates are much more fancy with icons etc.  ...

Yes, they are more fancy.

But when I sit down to watch a few episodes of a TV show I have in MC, I am presented with the same pictures of the actors over and over again, with each episode I view.

And those pictures take up a lot of space, pushing the information about each episode that I am interested in off the screen.  Also, the actors' photos are current ones, not anything like the actors as they may appear on older shows.

Then there's that huge bold font for the episode title.

What I'd like to see:

The option to show, e.g., Actors' names  or Actors' names and photos when I configure what i want to see.

... and tone down that episode title.  It does not need to take up that much screen space.
