An HDR movie looks totally washed out on my iPad Pro using JRemote. But if I watch it via DLNA from my JRiver library on the VLC app, the colors look great.

In JRemote under Settings what is "Video Quality" set to?

The options show Low, Medium, and High. Mine is set to High.

And finally Infuse app. With incredible bright color and detail - also from JRiver DLNA.

Did you try Medium?
Read about HDR on the forum and wiki.

Medium gives the same washed out colors, but also the picture is muddy and not detailed.
-
On the server, under Options > Media Network, try other settings for Video Conversion.
-
Ok, I tried DVD, MPEG2-TS, H264, MKV and these basically looked the same.
-
When I watch the same movie in JRiver on my PC, with my monitor which does NOT support HDR, the colors look just fine. It is only through JRemote that I get this washed out appearance.

What happens if you use Panel?

Good point I didn't try that. However, Panel gives the same washed out colors as JRemote.

AFAIK jremote and HDR is no go at the moment. Video conversion doesn't tonemap HDR videos so you'll get washed out colours. Also pass through isn't supported.
Some kind of support is in Hendrik's list for the MC30

This is kind of what I was afraid of. It makes the video tab of JRemote pretty useless for a big part of my media content.
And when you pull up the JRiver DLNA server with multiple third party apps and they display the colors and video in high quality, it is really disappointing.
