Title: What do you do if you can't find coverart?
Post by: WolfWalker on July 23, 2008, 08:27:43 am
I have about 16 albums that I cant find, I do not have the orig. cd. I have tried amazon, walmart and search engines.

When all else fails and I cannot find the proper image anywhere, after a while I will give up and simply . . . bluff   ;D

I find an image of the artist/band that I like and feel is suitable and I use that.

Some options:

- be without
- try slightly modified internet searches (maybe the artist or album names could be spelled differently)
- use some other existing image (as AoXoMoXoA suggested)
- create a new image with an image editor (for example, start with a picture of the artist and add the artist and album names as text)
- post a list of the albums here and hope someone can help.
- use a generic "no cover art" image. Here is mine, feel free to use it:

I'm down to only 4 albums without proper art.  These were EP's from before the bands were known.  Probably sold at local shows and never had a proper cover done.

If MC doesn't find it, and you've tried amazon and walmart's sites.  Here's a couple others.

Google image search.  If it's not on the first 2 pages, abort.

http://rateyourmusic.com    Usually has 300x300 art and has had quite a few that I couldn't find elsewhere.

http://www.cdcovers.cc/    Has really high res stuff.  For example Evanescence - Fallen is in 1500x1500!
I'd really love a plugin for MC that searches here.

Some other sources I've tried.

http://albumart.org/
http://www.coverhunt.com/
http://www.mega-search.net/
http://www.slothradio.com/covers/
http://www.allcdcovers.com/index.php

But frankly I bluff alot. But I should probably stop because all these bluffs end up getting uploaded to JRiver, don't they?

Any of these high resolution sites use source images instead of users uploading off of their flatbed scanners?
I hate when I can see the texture of the paper the cover is made of.
