Title: Any plans for headless JRiver Media Server with a Web GUI for configuration?
Post by: res80 on May 06, 2018, 06:22:09 am
Hi guys,
Media Center for Linux has been around since version 20.
Are there any plans to have a really headless JRiver Media Server, that requires no X Server or X forwarding at all?
And a basic Web GUI to take care of the entire configuration?
Similar to Plex, Emby, ...?
JRiver is much better with regard to DLNA custom views, so this would be really great!
And result in a much easier setup for headless servers!

Kind regards,
Ruediger

It should run fine headless.  Have you tried?

Some configuration can be done through Panel now.

Yes, it can run headless, but it still requires an X Server or X11VNC.
I was wondering if you are working on a version without any GUI at all, only web interface...
Thanks,
Ruediger

Why does it matter that an X Server is required?  It's part of the install.

I thought you could use a dummy X server? I've never tried it though, but I seem to recall reading it's possible.

You could read what Bob had to say about the X Server in this thread:

Well, if I use a Server distro, X Server is not part of the default installation.
So I need at least to setup x server, a window manager and a display manager to run MC on the server distro.
Packages that I need for no other service running on that machine (seafile cloud, plex for video streaming).
I can keep doing that but I was about to upgrade my server so I was just wondering if there are any changes planned.
Thanks,
Ruediger

Yes that works fine.
