Title: DRM Free Music Videos?
Post by: jmone on March 30, 2014, 05:56:34 am
It's been awhile since I looked - but does Performer have Music Videos (mostly Top 40 stuff) in a reasonable quality and DRM free?
Thanks
Nathan

No.  All the video is "protected" with DRM.  The record labels require it.

Well - I gave it a go anyway and signed up with a subscription and here is what I found on Music Videos:
- Music Videos are not available as part of the subscription (you can only buy a download not stream)
- Tried finding some recent Top 40 stuff like "Wrecking Ball" and "Happy".  Neither were in the Store
- Downloaded a "High Quality" download but is really not - The video was a 640*480 @ 23.976 encoded at 2Mbps with the 16:9 content in a full matte (see pic) so the quality is even much lower by the time you zoom in.
- DRMed (as expected)

So in summary, nothing has changed, as the record labels are still off with the pixies.  There is a far better range, quality, and DRM free material that can be both streamed or downloaded at sites like Vimeo than what I can purchase legally.   ::)  They make it hard to throw money at them for some reason.
